I feel obligated to post this so that others might benefit and save a few dollars. I have a 98 Blazer LT that had a strange hesitation problem on startup, including lack of power at full throttle. The trouble codes I was getting were left and right bank LEAN. The car even died at random on occassions. The dealer was unable to diagnose the problem. All they said is "You have a MAF sensor fault." Knowing it was running lean, prior to my dealer visit, I bought a new fuel filter, O2 sensor, and fuel pump, totalling over $500. Well, as it turns out the only thing that was wrong is the fact that the MAF sensor was dirty and needed cleaning. I pulled it off the car and CAREFULLY cleaned the 3 small wires with Q-Tips and Alcohol. They were coated with black goop. After cleaning the MAF sensor all problems have disappeared. So, the gist of this story is I spent $500 when all I needed was 30 minutes of my time and a 2 cent Q-Tip.

Re: MAF Sensor success story
Or an even safer approach is to not touch them at all and just spary the filaments with brake cleaner.
Works like a charm. Be careful cleaning the filements, they are very very prone to breaking. |
