Re: EGR Valve

EGR valve is located right below the throttle body. chances are you don't need to replace it. most likely, it's probably just malfunctioning due to carbon build up. either way, you'l have to take it out. try do a complete clean up of the throttle body and EGR valve see if that fixes the problem. there is a write up on vfaq's intake section under idle surge.

Re: EGR Valve

I looked at it and noticed that the 1 hose going from the sensor to the EGR was off. I hooked it back up and the car actually ran better than what its been doing. Would the pipe being off make the CEL come on? Also, does the CEL go off when the problem is fixed, or does it have to be reset? Im still taking it to my mechanic on wed, just to make sure evertyhintg all good.

Re: EGR Valve

to reset the CEL just unhook your NEG from the battery for about 10 mins or more and it resets when power is hooked back up.... if there is still a problem the CEL will come back on after some time.
My 2nd O2 sensor makes my CEL come on and I reset it and 40-50 miles the CEL comes back on...LOL Gluck

Re: EGR Valve

Yes, a hose not connected to it would cause the CEL. If you plugged it in, and disconnect the neg. battery side and the light doesn't come back, you should be 100% fine. Either way, the EGR is a relatively useless piece. Quite a few people actually block it off, and remove it. This will throw a permenant CEL unless you get a resistor to stop it. Blocking if off can also have an effect on your emissions testing. But all in all, if the hose wasn't the culprit, I'd block it off, as that can be done for much cheaper than $100.

Re: EGR Valve

Im going to try resetting it tomorrow morning, to see if the problem was solved. I hope the hose being disconnected was all the problem. Im saving for a full exhaust overhaul. Each time Im close to doing it, something else goes wrong. Problem with cars... lol. Thanks guys.

Since the ppl at AutoZone think its Carbon build up in your EGR valve, thats also what my bro said about why my car is smoking. Does your car white smoke at all? (if in fact it is carbon in your EGR valve)

Re: EGR Valve

white smoke could be a sign of moisture leakage in your engine.

Re: EGR Valve

No smoke. I attached the hose and reset the CEL. No CEL problems anymore. Problem solved. It was the hose being off

Re: EGR Valve

EGR valve is located right below the throttle body.

is the egr valve behind the wire harness square plug or is it where the hoses come in how many bolts are on it

does it require a new gasket?

Re: EGR Valve

Wow, this is an OLD topic.

Its attached on the head. Itll be right in front, to the left of your intake. Its a little odd shaped metal piece, almost cone like. No gasket
