Re: street racing

legalized street racing? that is like an oxymoron. not only will it not happen in order to do so they would have to allow reckless driving and speeding go also. it would be a scary world if it was made legal to do what ever you wanted on a public highway. people that dont speed for fear of tickets will speed. hell everyone will speed. might as well get rid of speed limits. make them reccomendations. why not make all of america one giant german autobahn. at first all the deaths will be headlines and will soon turn into a common occurence like its no big deal. laws are there for a reason. us who brake them may or may not get caught. if/when we do we pay the price and move on. thoes who have a greater intelegence than us who brake traffic laws dont have to pay thoes prices.

Re: street racing

Hey welcome to AF! I think it would be a great idea. But, as long as you can find an old airport strip, or even a drag strip to use for that purpose, then yeah. I think they need something like that around the area. That is the only way I see it becoming legal for anyone who wants to do it. They have a raceway up in Salt Lake where they do it here in Utah. Well, it's ok that you haven't raced, I don't think anyone will hold that against you. But, if you ever have a good race to tell us, feel free, and don't do anything stupid like racing in traffic where you can hurt someone. Also, nobody here likes BS-ing. Just be truthful to everyone and you won't have very many problems. Late...

Re: street racing

actually i think they did something like what redstang is saying in japan. every saturday the cops close down a road somewhere and let people race. forgot where i read that, but it'd be a hell of an idea. that would work a hell of a lot better than destroying people's cars when they race.

First of all, this is all retarded. Saying a country has better drivers is not true. THey have thier best, we have out best. THey have thier worst, we have our worst. They driver better? Please. Someone hit up F&F thinking Japan is kings of racing. It is legal to mod cars here, dont think so? Do a search on google for how many companies are selling car upgrades, and how many shops will do the installl.. right here in the good ol' U S of A.
As for legal street racing...never will happen. My bet for you would be to find a road that isnt used much at night, getting a group and heading out there. You can try to have most interesctions blocked with people's cars waiting to race. The cops wont like this (some are cool with it, as long as on a road not traveled), but cops are not cool with racing either. Dont get hurt, and have fun. Remeber, winning is everything...next to safety.

Re: street racing

Legalized street racing, even if it was allowed, will never happen, but for different reasons then what people have said. I actually did a paper on this in high school when we had to write persuasive essay. The essay said that we should legalize, but a follow up paper showed why it would never work.

First, to clear some things up, speeding is very different from racing. I dont know about where you all live, but, in Texas, theyre are actualy several types of tickets you can get reagarding racing. There is contest for speed, racing, excesive acceleration (burning out), reckless endangerment with a vehicle, disturbing the peace, public nusiance, and I believe straight out speeding. You can get all those tickets just from one race.

Speeding, in my opinion, should be 'legal'. I believe that in certain areas of the United States, highways should have either higher maximum speed limits (for example, have a maximum of 90, minimum of 60), allowing for drivers to drive where they feel comfortable. This in no way encourages reckless driving, as highway patroll officers will still monitor it. Furthermore, having actually been an the Autobahn, not all of it is without speed limit. THe limit is just higher.

Now, on to the main point. Legalized street racing will never take off becuase 1)Its not why we race, and 2)It already exists in the form of drag strips across the nation.

First, I'll cover point 1. Why do we street race? Its none of that honor or pride or crap like that. You can back that up at a strip just as easily as you could on the street. Street racing has a certain sex appeal, almost a taboo about it. Its fun becuase you could get caught. The whole air of endangering is, sadly fun to most racers, myself included. If Street racing had legal racing locations, I dont think as many people would visit them because it wouldn't be as fun knowing you could get caught.

Now, my second point, which plays of the first point. Legalized street racing does exist in the form of drag strips. For a minimal fee, you can go out to a qm strip and race to your hearts content. And, for everyone who says , well maybe they cant afford it, I'm sorry, but having looked at the prices of the mods for cars, you can shell out 5-15 bucks no biggy. Again, this goes back to the whole taboo of racing. We are racing on the street becuase of the exitement of it. I've done a few track passes, and they were nothing at all like racing on the street.

So, would there be legal street racing? Maybe. Will it work? Doubtfull at best.

Re: street racing

We talked about this in my last speeding class...(ticket). Our teacher said that she doesnt think thier should be a speed limit, especially for ages 18-25. She said at this age we are very attentive, and can actually handle higher speeds. However newer drivers (16-17) are not ast confortable in thier car (I disagree) so they need a limit to how fast they can go. Older drivers (65+) dont have as much of a reaction time, so they too need a limited speed. And it is just not practical to have a sign that reads:

Speed Limit:
16-17: 55
18-55: Non limited.
56-64: 70
65+: 55

Re: street racing

i realize that it'd probably never work, but having the cops block off a road is IMHO a better option than them taking your car and destroying it.

cassie...all your points are good, the only real complaint i have about racing at tracks is that it takes 2 hours for me (and many other people) to get to the nearest one. for that whole thing to work out, they'd need to start building more tracks.

Re: street racing

wow i wish that was the real law....i would be to work in 5 minutes flat...and isn't getting caught part of the thrill of street racing? i dunno....and in minnesota the only tracks that we have are in brainerd (a million miles away) and duluth (two million miles away) so it sucks for people who want to see what their cars are made of....
