Seatbelt issue...

Hi people,

I have got a Hyundai Tiburon 2003. I changed the rear shock (driver's side). To do this, I had to unscrew the rear seat belt to get to the shock's screws, but now I can't put the seatbelt back, because it has rewinded a little (it's shorter in length). Does someone know the seatbelt's mechanism so I can get it back to it's original length??? Or do I have to go to a Hyundai dealer to get it fixed???

It sounds like you have to take it to the dealer, or just wait until nisco comes around, he might be able to give you the answer to that one.

hold the seat belt retractor level like if it were bolted to the car....then you should be able to pull the seat belt out....i did this when i put on my rear strut tower brace...to both seat belts...it does come back out no problem...just get the thing level and you will be able to pull it out

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried as you told me, but I think it's to short to be pulled out. It seems to be like stuck in there, like when you pull hard it activates the locking mechanism. Well, it's like that pulling slow too. And in the weekend I folded the back seats to put some stuff in the back and now I can't fold them back, because the thing is in the way. I'll try again this weekend to see if I can pull it out. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know. Any other advice?

If I don't succeed, I'll take it to the dealers. But those guys charge too much. Hasn't Nisco come around yet?

hmmm not sure on what to do... id take a look at my own tib, but i dont even have it back yet from teh shop...

my best guess is jus take it back to teh dealer, i hope they dont charge anything.. or very litle if anything.. it seems like a simple fix

if the car is still under any warrenty they should still fix it for free but if not then u might get a labor charge

Hi guys,

I opened up the seatbelt to loosen it and now it seems like I've damaged the mechanism. It doesn't stretch nor pull back. I think now I'll have to take it to the dealer. But the thing is, it's very rare that someone will sit in the back and use the seatbelt. So, I think it'll stay that way for a while. Thanks for your help guyz.

Oh no.. I'm having the same problem myself! Anyone else find a good fix to get the rear seatbelt to release without taking it to a dealership? Holding it level hasn't worked for me either. - I had to unbolt the mechanism when I replaced my springs tonight, so they rolled up when I set them down.. and now they won't let go!
