battery light

the battery light on my 97 grand am has come on and will only go off when its revved to almost 4000 rpm. all the battery connections are fine, any idea whats going on?

You will need to replace your alternator. The alternator is not charging enough to keep the light from coming on. When you rev the engine it spins fast enough to increase the charge but when you let off it goes back below the minimum level. Get it done soon as the battery will probably die soon too!
