JDM Motors NOW legal in California

Ok as of Aug 1, 2004 you can now legally in California have a JDM motor in your car. The motor has to pass USDM motor counter parts emissions. Ex. if you buy a D15 soch vtec JDM motor is has to pass is if it was a D16Z6 because of Vtec. This is the same for any family of motor D, B, Hs, Fs, and so on. Just letting you guys know here in cali. Any questions ask here. BTW my car is now to low to Dyno test but it is still legal height so I have to get a tail pipe test which is a good thing. With turbo on I only failed CO 100 legal limit and I was at 195. Hmm sounds like some e-manage tuning to me. FOCK CALIFORNIA SMOG RULES and a few other rules too.

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

yes you are able to drive around california even live here for 182 days before you have to smog a car from another state that is here.

Ami from what I told on that they changed it cause they where getting so many JDM motors from importers as direct swap. Also there was a problem in LA (go figure) with out of state cars cause of motor swaps. At least this is what I have been told by the California ref I talked to yesterday. I think somebody finally proved that a JDM motor can pass with the same smog equipment as USDM. Who knows its california its focked.

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

I always thought that as long as it passed smog it was find whether JDM or USDM, but the problem was with having a JDM ECU. And that most people in Cali have a USDM ecu to put in the car when getting checked and putting the JDM one back in...hmmm what about gutting the interior of the ECUs and putting the guts of the JDM in the USDM one...

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

Or I could just make you a USDM sticker to make it look as if it was a USDM ecu. Hmm anybody want these they are 100% the same as the real thing. I just sold a local shop 500 of them so he can get a few cars refed. Ill post pics later.

BTW JDM ecus are not with in California smog specs there they tuned to make the car to run better increasing the fuel and what not in california and other states (usdm) the ecus are tuned to run within a certian smog spec and Hp spec. So as far a JDM ecus go there better for power but will not pass US smog.

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

some JDM ECU's actually appear different than their USDM counterparts.. take for instance the JDM P30 ECU most commonly used with OBD1 B16 swaps.. its about 2 inches smaller than its USDM P30 counterpart. Those smogs techs are trained to spot shit like that, or so i've heard.

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

well are far as a PM6 goes you can program it with a P28 program and it works just like a P28 with wire jumpers. Then a sticker is but on it and it passes. The smog techs around here have no resource on what a true ecu for a certian car has. The sticker is the only thing they have to go by.

actually, P28 fuel multipliers and mapping are not compatible with the PM6's microprocessor. You can use p28 ignition maps on a PM6, but you cannot use P28 fuel maps on a PM6. just a FYI.

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

what ever you got the point didnt you Im not the programmer. Hmm then why does Vtec work in a PM6 with increasing fuel if you cant use a P28 fuel map? Or are they just using a pm6 modified fuel map when chipping.

Re: JDM Motors NOW legal in California

when i've programmed PM6's to work with SOHC VTEC,i use the stock PM6 fuel map increased 3% and then increased another 3% at the VTEC Crossover point.
