I have been 1 from 1983.
And I also went to the GM train center in Monroeville PA.
I miss that place.

Re: How many GM Techs are on here?

Yep
They closed it about 7 years ago.
Gm has to save money some how so why not cut out the Tech training centers.
I used to love going there learned more talking to other Techs about problems and fixes they find.
And going to the Mall for lunch and then being done at 3pm.

the training center was across the street (business 22) from the sears, by the showcase cinema east as he pointed out.

I went to norwin, lived back behind hamilton buick mazda etc while in HS when it was a young development, by the cul de sac. walked past kenny ross chevy every day after whatever sports I was in. small world eh?

Re: How many GM Techs are on here?

So FirePlug how does working with your bad back affect you? I fractured 2 disks 15 months ago and I'm still having problems bending over hoods for more than 20 min most days.
Good thing that I don't swing wrenches for a living any more

Re: How many GM Techs are on here?

Well I blew out 3 disks and hurt 2 more. I kept working for 2 weeks after the injury and spent most of my time on my knees when working under the hood. I had to go and have 3 operations by the time it was all over and because I kept working with the injury I did a lot of nerve damage. Hell I am a tuff guy I can take it was my big mistake.
That was in July 1998 and as of today I am out of the game for good. The Docs will not let me lift anything or stand for more then 2 hours at a time because the pain in my legs is so bad. The weather just kills me when its about to rain.
I miss being able to work. I loved working on GM cars and trucks because everyone problem was different and it never got boreing. I did most of the trouble cars when the other Techs gave up. Most nights I would take a customers car have with the scan tool hooked up so I could get a reading of what is going on. Also we had a snap-on scope and I was the only 1 who new how to use all the different functions and understand it. Like the vacuum wave form mode I used that one to find a lot of problems.
Sorry got off of topic
Just be very carfull what you do and how you do it . I wrong twist or bend and puff its all over.
And 25 years as a Vol. Firefighter is all over too.
