93 Altima alternator problems...

Hey guys. I'm having a rather annoying problem with my 1993 Altima SE. About a month ago, the alternator went out, which was not entirely unexpected, since I bought the car used with 150000 miles on it. So I went down to a parts store, bought a rebuilt alternator for $150, and gave it to a mechanic friend of mine to install. The install went without a hitch, and the car worked fine...for a week. My car lost power in much the same way it did when the first alternator failed. So I had the car towed to a mechanic, and their diagnosis was that it was the alternator. I figured I just got a bad part from the shop I bought it from, so I took it back and exchanged it. Once again, the install of the new one went without a hitch. Now, a little over a week later, my brake and engine lights have come on again, which is what happened every other time the alternator failed. WHAT could be causing this to happen? I think it's unlikely that I got two bad alternators that lasted approximately the same amount of time. Just got the spark plugs and the battery replaced, so it's not either of those. Any help would be appreciated!

I went through the same thing with a local alternator repair place replacing the regulator twice in a month and it is out again after another couple of weeks. It is a Nissan 94 Altima.

I called the NISSAN dealership and they only have rebuilt alternators. They do sell the regulator, but it is almost as much as the rebuilt alternators. I did see a new alternator listed on the Internet, but cannot find it listed anymore.

Mmm... Mine did that but it was because i was running a 1600 watt amp ... and it sorta couldnt put out as much.... so i went to the local discount auto parts store and got a rebuilt one. within a month i had to replace it again...because it was faulty. This time before i got out the store, i had them test the alternator... and it wasnt putting out more than 10 volts... so they were about to sell me another faulty alternator. so he tested all they had ... and the same results... so now w\ out a core and my money refunded i had to get another alternator. I went to my mechanic... and he went to a shop where alternators are rebuilt... and i got it from there.... not a problem since...

yeah, also make sure no fluids are leaking onto your alternator. and if your are running stereo equipment you should either get a rebuilt one that puts out more amps or buy a capacitor.
