Hi there,
The overdrive in my 91 Galant with auto trans does not work. It shifts ok 1 to 3rd, but if it tries OD it acts like I accidentally shifted into neutral. Do I have a prayer? Can I fix this W/O dropping the trans? Any help appreiciated. [email protected]. Thanks. |

Re: O/D don't work
Hi im bob. My grandpa has a 91 auto galant with the same problem. The O/D switch seems to not work. After a while he realized that if he reved the engine up to where o/d would normally kick in, and clicked the O/D switch, it would kick into o/d. This, however, was not good for the tranny comp and caused it not to shift at all after a while. So don't do that! I had the tranny comp rebuilt from a place in calif. for $160 and now it shifts again. but still went into netral a couple of times. Does your car always slip into neutral or just sometimes? I too want to figure this out and two heads are better than one, so whadaya say we tag team this crap?

That's interesting that you had the same problem, but were able to get to O/D by reving up the engine, and clicking in. I didn't try that. I just bought my car from EBay (dealer didn't tell me about it!)
When you say "tranny comp", do you mean tranny computer? I didn't know there was such a thing. I was reading some of the past forum, and there was a guy who described the same problem. Someone else named "trannyguy" replied and told him that is sounded like the "O/D clutch" was bad, and that it would cost some "$$$$" to fix. |
