2001 sunfire trouble

i have a 2001 sunfire and i stop to get some gas today, when i tried to start it back up ,it just turn over.when i pour a little gas in the carb it runs for a couple of seconds and then shut back down.i`m thinking its the fuel pump.if so what do you use to disconnect the gas lines.i also check all the fuses

I'm not really sure about the sunfire, but i had a similar problem when I had my jeep.
It wouldnt take gas, thought it was the fuel sending switch - it wasnt. thought it was the fuel pump - replaced it (had to drop the tank and it was a full tank!) - it wasnt that either. It ended up being a loose ground wire connected to the switch on the tank....it wasnt a fuse either.
if ya wanna do it yourself, its a big job...
otherwise send her in to get fixed.

Re: 2001 sunfire trouble

Carb? well you know you have air and spark, but no fuel. so concentrate on the fuel system. get a Haynes manual, and do the tests for the fuel pump and injectors. it sounds like the fuel pump may not be working, first check the fuse and then the relay before you dive into a tank removal. like SGF96 said it can be a big job.
