88 Mercury Grand Marquis power window

The driver's power window on our 88 Mercury Grand Marquis (4-door) stopped working. Possible water may have seeped in. Whatever the cause, it does not functioning at all meaning it won't pass state inspection. A local mechanic made a "quick" check and indicated it was NOT a fuse. I believe there is one rear window that either does not work or is slow. Other 2 windows seem to work fine. We suspect either motor or regulator. Are there available diagrams with instructions on 1) how to remove door panel, 2) perform diagnostics, and 3) replace regulator and/or motor? Approximate cost for do it yourself? Degree of difficulty? Local mechanic referred us to another shop and they provided a wide-range estimate, depending on what they found once they removed the panel.

Re: 88 Mercury Grand Marquis power window

Sounds like the regulator. If you do it yourself, it's less thatn $100 for parts, unless you break the glass. I'd get a Chilton's or similar repair manual to show you how to do it; it's not that difficult but can be a pain, especially the first time. Also, check other posts under MGM, as this has been discussed before. Good luck!
