disabling govner?
'96 v6. Can this be done? At 120 mph it shuts itself down. Have another 3 grand on tack that can't be used. I know this is a legal issue with manufacturer but there has to be a way to disable? Any thoughts?

Re: disabling govner?
i think it can be disabled through the pcm but you have to hook one of those tuner machines upto it I think.

PCMforless, Hypertech, JetChips.. bout all I can think of for now..

Re: disabling govner?
you have to reprogram the ECU, however no one makes one for the pre-98 v-6s. none of the PROM flasher programs that some sites sell dont have the correct files for the sixers. tis the life we chose...

Re: disabling govner?
As it stands right now there isn't a program or anything that I know of for our cars (93-97 v6). Shoot me a PM tho this winter cuz there may be one then.

Re: disabling govner?
not responsible for the consequences i will state outright. i dont know how well it would work with obd II since this is the old school way that works on third gens. but what you do is disable the vss and then the computer has no way of knowing how fast and no limit. problem is speedo doesnt know how fast ur goin either. you could also wire in a switch to the wire(s) to enable and disable at your pleasure. i dont recommend doing this tho as it is considered tampering with the odometer and its illegal and all that. be responsible if you do bypass the limiter, dont need to lose another f body

Re: disabling govner?
You are electronically limited. I don't care what anyone says, you cannot bypass this using any programmer. I've been working on Camaros and Trans Ams for almost 6 years now and have yet to see it properly done

I ran two lines with gator clips to a bypass switch ( with a cool green light ) just get a wiring diagram of the car , there is always someway you can do it at the harness. Find the wire on the diagram that runs for the Governor , color code it to schematics , snip it , connect it to a switch , turn it off and on at will. Dunno if that would work for a 97 though. I have a 3rdgen and it worked fine.
