I need help with a turbo set up

Ill be doing internal work, will get nice forged rods with forged 8.5:1 pistons. I will also probably change the crank bearings since ill be down there.

I will also port and polish the head and get stiffer springs so raise the redline a bit, and ill get a good head gasket.. can anyone recomend a thickness? i dont even know what stock is. and how the thickness benefits... the thicker the better??

As for turbo, i was thinking doing compressor t3 with 60 trim, and turbine with t4, AR 63/69 .
from what i know
operating A/R ratio is
Low end: .58
Midrange: .69-.81
High rpm: .96

So im thinking midrange would be perfect. It wont spool so fast that it will top out fast, and since my redline wont go more than 7,000 i dont have to worry about topping out like those high rpm cars do like the 9,000 sti for example.

i know there so many turbo set ups out there with different trims and compressor and turbine sizes and they all spool differently... and its smart to get the best set up for your engine so you can use everything you can out of it, but the hard thing is figuring it all out.

I know some of you have turbos and have lots of knowledge about them. I need something to compare to maybe and thats what will get me started. For example, lets say i want to run mid 12s in 1/4 at 15 psi, i want something that will spool fast enough to give me power to go through 1/4 from the start, but something that wont top out at 100mph, i want to take my car up to 140mph and not top out at 120 and it will run like crap at 120.... i know i probably dont make sense wanting something that will spool fast but yet keep spooling when im already going fast haha. ofcourse my first goal is to have fast 1/4 mile times at 15psi or so, its rare that you get a chance to go 140mph in the middle of no where in a middle of a desert or open freeway at 3am.

any help would be cool, just need something that will push me somewhere... thank you

Re: I need help with a turbo set up

Usually a .81 ar turbine is pretty high range on the KA. You figure, my T04B has a .69ar and it spools around 4k. I would say go with the 50trim too. I haven't heard such great things about the 60s. A thicker headgasket is usually better just because it will lower compression some allowing you to run more boost, but a .040'' should do it. Then again, if you can't decide on the thinnest or the thickest, get the one in the middle. And don't bother with the connecting rods, they are already forged. You should start considering a fuel system. And if I could offer a little advice, build a low boost system first. Even with you putting all these high-strength internals in there, with 12psi, you can easily blow your engine if it isn't tuned correctly. You can always turn up the boost later. Just my 0.02

well i can pretty much just build up the engine and run it at 7 psi and take it to get turnned up and then i can turn it up to 15 once its nice and tunned just to be safe.

and about the headgasket, do you know the stock thickness?
