2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

Here are four Japanese 2.0 Turbo AWD cars that have competed in rally racing. Four stout motors, four sophisticated AWD systems, and four big-ass snails. Which one is king?

Re: 2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

The GTi-R and the GT4 both dont have as much HP as the other two...so they are at a disadvantage...so I would take the STi since too many ppl have the Evo here in Florida...and slowly also the STi

it may be 45hp down on the STi and EVO, but the GTi-R only weighs ~2700lb, compared to the EVO's ~3100lb (EVO VII GSR) and the Subaru's ~3200lb (MY03 WRX STi)...and every drifter knows what an sr20det is capable of, only the GTi-R sr20 is better: quad throttle...

as for the GT-four, it is heavier, has less power stock and its engine is not that easy to modify and there isnt a big aftermarket for it, but it is the superior engine and in the end will be capable of the most power...plus it is very reliable, because its a toyota. so yeah. GT-four Group A's are awesome especially the ST205, and ST165's can be real sleepers and also have a kind of old school appeal.

so dont underestimate the underdogs.

but being newer and having years of development, the EVO and impreza are probably the superior cars

The EVO, so easy to modified, so easy to make power. The others are also great, but the EVO just has it all, except the looks, but last time I checked, the Sunny was kind of ugly also.

Re: 2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

I voted for the GT4, they look the nicest, but I`d have to agree with "Engineer" with the EVO and Sti being more developed, not neceseraly superior, different yes and newer. when it comes down to it though the EVO would have to win through, good quality, better than the Impreza, and lots of HP, probably easyer to come by aswell with a whole host of mods. "3000ways" is right with the Sunny being ugly, they are also not that nice to drive, but at the end of the day we all have our favourites, get the one you like the most, mod it, then blow away the competition with a big grin on your face.

I personally think the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is the best out of all of them. To me, it really comes down to handling, and the Evolution has superior handling compared to any other Japanese car.

Re: 2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

It's probably down to the two hot favourites. The evo and the sti. they've survived this long because they've really been making good cars. But from the two, the evo's the clear winner. THere's a Top Gear episode on the battle of these two giants. The overall result was a thrashing! Quote "The subaru was a good boys car.... but that.... the mitsubishi... is a man's car!"

I'd go with the gt4. The 3gste is probably the best engine for relabilty out of all of them, has dual entry turbo, and probably can handle the most hp on stock internals.

Up here in connecticut, I've seen STI's than any other japnese sports car. I've seen more of them than Supras, NSX's, Rx7's and evo's combined

Re: 2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

I like the older sti's. They weighted allot less then the new ones.

What about the AWD DSM's? Got to give them at least a shout out for being cheap and easy to pickup.

Re: 2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

I figured that putting in both the DSM and the Evo would be a bit redundant, so I just put in the Evo.

Re: 2.0 Turbo AWD Battle

They're fairly different, but it would still be redundant to have two AWD Mitsubishis with the same engine in the same comparo.

Yeah i think that i would have to put the GT4 at the top of the list narrowly beating the EVO.

GT4's do have great modability in the right hands and to me personallyi think the have a certain exclusivity factor about them.

The EVO is the best in pure performance but are next to impossible to get your hands on for a decent price in Aust.

GTiR's took a huge beating with the ugly stick when the were being designed

There are 50 squillion WRXs on the roads in Aust. i need to stand out

GT4 would be the best in the overall stakes id say.
