1.0 to1.3 Swap?

I drive a 95 Geo Metro 1.0 liter 5-speed.

I just bought a wrecked 96 Metro with a 1.3 liter automatic.

How hard is it to swap the 1.3 into my 95? I heard that the 1.3 is basically the same engine as the 1.0 with one extra cylinder. will the flywheel interchange or is it balanced differently? Has anybody ever done this?

I would think that it would give me a lot more power.

Well, the motor is generally the same, but it's offset to the right of the car more. Therefore, everything changes. Axles, hubs, motor mounts, transmission mount bolting point, shift linkage, wiring harness, ECU, fuel pump... you get my drift. It'd be cheaper to sell the 1.0 and find a metro with a 1.3 in it. OR, a nice cam and cam gear, and exhaust will wake that 1.0 up to feel like a 1.3 and get better gas mileage.

Thank you for the advice geozukigti, looks like I am stuck with a parts car that the engine will not work in my car. At least I have all those little interior parts that I needed, but I probably would not have sunk so much money in it just for those few parts.

The new 2000-01 metros get up and go fasster than the later models. These cars can be faster than what they are, look at the ford feista/festiva small cars whit power and look at the mini cooper .You tell me who made the mini cooper works far a small car like this. The min cooper is the smallest car in the market with more power and ralleyed more than a honda. The GEO.CHEVY,SUZUKI Metros can be the same.Keep in mind.A turbo charged Mini,Its no diffrent than a Merto.Mini coopers use to be slow until thet came up with the mini cooper works.

Oh, you have an entire parts car?? Go for it! You've got everything you need. Just need to relocate the drivers side transmission mount. If you need pics of it, let me know. But when you rip the engine out of the other car, you'll see the difference in the offset. But if you have the whole parts car, that's the only problem you'll have. Just switch the front suspension, axles, wiring harness, ECU, mounts, gas tank, and gauge cluster. And you'll be ready to go.

Yea, I bought the whole car, mashed front and all. It has 99,000 miles on it and mine has 219,000 miles so I was thinking an engine with less miles and more power. Mine is a 5-speed and the wrecked one is an automatic. My wife refuses to drive a manual transmission car ever since that night that the shifter came out of the Pinto with her at the wheel and she was sitting in the middle of 22 street wondering what to do, so I am the only one that drives the Metro. If I put the automatic in it Karen would drive it.
