Question Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

Days after having my EM brake pads replaced, they stopped working. I read the Haynes Repair Manual & it suggested the tightening of the adjusting nut on the cable tensioner! After making this adjustment, the brakes would constantly squeal for the first 2 seconds of depressing the brake pedal. I took the vehicle back to Chrysler & they adjusted not the cable, but something in the rear brakes (near the pads). The Haynes Repair Manual states "Do Not loosen or tighten the tensioner adjusting nut for any reason after completing an adjustment." I thought if loosened the cable a bit, the squeal would go away, however, I am hesitant to go against what the repair manual states! Any suggestions?

My vehicle is a '98 & I am unsure if the rear brakes are Disc? How could I tell if the rear is Disc or not?

Re: Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

The brakes squeak when braking normally! The squeak came about after I adjusted the adjusting nut on the E-Brake cable tensioner. I believe it's the E-brake cable but the repair manual says do not loosen it?

yea I kow what u mean.
I would take the calipers off and clean the Discs (Rotors) they may have brake dust built up and this is causing ur squeek.

Re: Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

You may be on to something! When I took my Jeep to the shop last week for the free brake check, the guy told me my pads were good & sprayed some brake stuff on the dics. After spraying whatever he sprayed on them, I didn't hear any squealing for about two days! I'll try cleaning the rotors thoroughly & see what happens. Thanks again!!!

Re: Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

yea that should do it, u also might want to clean the brake pads also. and the calipers. to make sure the squeek doesn't come back as quickly as it did. Brake Parts Cleaner is what u want to use.

Re: Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

any auto parts store should sell something that gets rid of brake noise, stuff you can just spray or wipe on, probably have to take the wheel off but it should work

Re: Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

oo yea I forgot about that u might want to pick up some brake assembly grease to put on the bolts of the Caliper and also put on the inside of the cylinder of the caliper this will also get rid of and squeeking.

You may want to put some anti squeak on the backs of your pads. The squeel comes from rapid vibration when you apply pedal pressure. Your local NAPA dealer has the anti squeel in a small bottle. Follow directions and squeel be gone.

Re: Squeaking noise when braking, pads are good!

Could just be cheaper rotors too. When I did the brakes on my 98 JGC Limited, the shop ordered the wrong rotor and they made TONS of noise. I had them replace them with the proper (and more expensive ones) and not a squeek to date!
