rust rust rust

how many of you guys has looked under the rear end of your cars. my rear end looks awful. the rust is thick, what kind of sand paper should i use in this matter to sand that down so i can paint it. and what kind of paint should i use to keep it from looking like this again.

Re: rust rust rust

Use a wire brush to get rid of the thick flakey rust and then coat it with por 15 and it will look great forever. go buy their starter kit, it comes with everything needed to do a nice paint job over rust.

Another thing you can do but its kinda tricky is once you get it sanded down and cleaned up is to go get you some of that rhino liner, and use it as an undercoat if you have a spray gun and know how to paint. Since that stuff is almost impossible to scratch and is immune to chemicals, salt it would work great for the underside of your car. Once I get my 55 truck and get the frame stripped down and all cleaned up. I'm going to use that on the frame and the whole bottom of the truck to keep it from rusting out. I also like to use it inside the wheelwells, that stuff is great and its not to terribly expensive at about 60 bucks for a gallon of it at autozone.

Re: rust rust rust

www.por15.com

im not sure if you can bondo over it, I think you can but I havent done any major stuff with it. Ive always been able to get away with their por patch stuff which works like body filler.

Re: rust rust rust

I found some hiding rust today in my 3rdgen right inside my rear wheel well along the fenders inner trim peice , it was like about to flake off. Pissed me off. So I sanded and bondo's it. Not that it really matters because..-takes a deep breath-..I am trading it off for a honda civic hatch back with fart cannon and all baby =D Well for winter anyways. Plus I am getting another camaro in a few weeks , a silver 78.
