how to recondition a 240k mi engine?

we just got a '95 integra gs-r for my girlfriend that has 240,000 miles on it. it doesnt burn oil or have anything wrong with it that i can tell. its gotten all its recomended maitenence at specified times and everything.

should i do anything to it to make sure it lasts longer? would new valve springs or piston rings or something like that help? suggestions?

if it's not burning oil or running poorly, then what is there to recondition?

if it works, fucking with it will only break it.

Alotta miles son

Shes been working for this long so I wouldnt spend a thing on it. Sure you could spend some cash on pistons a rings etc but if it broke a rod or crank whats the point. Only spend money on the old girl when its needed and when it packs it in, it would be better to by a fresher reco with less miles then to spend money on yours.

Keep on keeping on:flash:

preventive maintenance!!!
at 240k miles you never know it may run like it is for another 100k or it may die tommorrow. i would spend the money and not worry.
timing belt, water pump, all other belts and hoses, plugs/wires, cap and rotor, fuel/air/oil filters. that should do it, i wouldn't worry about the rings if its not smoking.

Why would you do all this if as above he has had the car regularly serviced and all theses external parts are fine such as timing belt all other belts and hoses, plugs/wires, fuel/air/oil filters. If it had been properly serviced they will be in proper working order.

Just maintain it as its schedule requires. And maybe service the oil and filter with a full synthetic every 4000 - 5000 miles.

All the best and dont worry, if she runs be happy :flash:

if it aint broke dont f with it or you might breaqk something, speaking from experience i've got a 20 year old civic w/ 200,000+ and it ran fine besides a little smoke in the mornings from the valve stem seals seeping when they are cold, i tore it down to replace the seals and now its all f'ed up. i think i bent one of my auxillary valves when re installing the rocker arm cage. so it just goes to show if it works fine dont touch it!

hmm...

that many miles on a 95 means that they are most likely all highway miles...

have you revved it high alot? does it throw smoke? if yes, build another motor or buy one... if not leave it

if you think it is beat up, then go for a swap. i wouldnt bother to rebuild something that old, only b/c it will have worn everything... like the shape of the cyl's, the ports, everything would be pretty worn.

if you are thinking about reconditioning it (rebuilding it) dont do it and buy another motor, newer, less miles, etc...

Leave it be, boy

Don't worry, be happy! If something does go wrong, sell it, and buy something new!

well, i think it would be best to ensure that we can get a few more years of use out of this engine, and be able to really run it if we wanted. would something work like putting in a LS block that has less miles (in case the cylinder walls have been warped) and then getting the crank reworked and get new type r pistons and rods or something? would the head need anything looked at? if we had it torn down and all cleaned and all that would it be like getting a newer engine?

we saved a coupe grand getting this car with high miles and want to ensure it will be ok for a while. and its a gsr so it begs to be driven hard. its hard not to. we dont really have the money for a new b18c engine but do have enough $ to work with the one we have.

if the engine dies and everything else is working fine try and find someplace that just sells the B18C1 block and not the entire swap kit, that should save you a buncha money.

would it most likely be the block that will mess up? with the cylinder walls warping? does the b18c not have a closed deck?

i dunno what would happen to the block on a high mile engine, i was just going on what flylwsi said "... like the shape of the cyl's, the ports, everything would be pretty worn"
