Headers

I'm considering installing headers in my 1991 Crx. I can get the headers for about $100 on ebay, but my friend, who is a mechanic who has done work on my car before told me that he would charge me between $100 and $150 to install it. He said that since it's an aftermarket piece, it will basically not fit, and he will have to do modifications. What are some of you guys' experience with headers? Did it just bolt on? Is the labor charge reasonable?

Re: Headers

sounds like hes talking shit, and that isnt cheap if hes a "friend" they should bolt straight up the only thing which may cause a problem is the 02 sensor as you may have 1/2 depending on which country you are in and the manifold may have two instead of one or vice versa

Re: Headers

Yeah, I don't think it's worth 150 bux labor to do a header install and possibly have to extend one wire a foot or so longer... Do it yourself and don't get robbed.

Re: Headers

Well, he said he installed 3 aftermarket ones already. None of them fit. He said that aftermarket stuff doesn't fit as well as factory. Right after he installed my short shifter, it was touching the exhaust as I was shifting. He proved his point to me. He had to cut off a piece of linkage to fix it. Plus, he previously installed a new tranny for $250, which is almost half of what two other shops qouted me for. Plus that $250 included installing a short shifter, driving me in his car for 50 miles to pick up a bearing, and before he started he came to my house to inspect everything. So he's not ripping me off.

i dont care if your friends with him, 150 dollars to install any header is a rip off. just do it yourself, then you will actually learn something about your car and can say you did it yourself

eh id say he's fillin you full of shit, it took me an hour or so to install mine, the only remotely tricky part would be angleing the header just right to get it to set on the block straight, but its no kind of labor worth 100-150 bucks...........do it your self.............

Re: Headers

Dude you shouldnt even be messing with a car if you cant put a short shifter or a header on thats non sense to buy parts and not put them on and pay someone i hate to see how much you have in a car when your done with it...But anyways its about a half hour to an hour job to do and its not worth getting fucked out of 150 dollars just think about it you can put it on and take the 150 you were going to pay the mofo and buy some other performance part..

Re: Headers

The only time the headers really don't fit is when you go to a junkyard and they give you one from a different car... bastards! If you order it for your engine, you should be alright. Look at the intake/exhaust manifold section of the helm's manual here for your particular model. For installation just follow the directions of which bolts to tighten in what order to the proper torque specs... no problem. Oh and btw, the reason your short shifter hit your exhaust is because somebody did a shitty job installing an aftermarket midpipe or your shifter bushings are wasted. Do what you want...

lol...$150..I'm a noob and that's rediculous..it isn't that difficult. And definitely a point..it's good to learn anything you can so you aren't shelling out $$$ to get little shit fixed if anything breaks.

Oh, make sure to buy/install only one header. Don't buy headers unless you have two engines in your CRX!
LOL...Thanks for the heads up.
