Need a timing gear & pully
I posted in a thread a little while back that i finnaly got my engine rebuilt and i was having trouble getting the timing gear back onto the crankshaft. well, i found out that i did get the wrong crankshaft, i talked to the autostore, and they said that there were to different sizes that they made for a 1991 crx SI(D16a6) which is the engine i am building. my question is that will it make a difference if i go ahead and use the crankshaft, and just find a gear and pully, if i can, Where can i go about finding a gear and pully, cause none of the auto parts stores carry them.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Need a timing gear & pully
I've got two crankshaft pulleys. One was a stock spare that came with my car that's dimpled all on one end for some reason. The other one is from a 90 d16a6 I used as a replacement engine (I'm still using the Unorthodox crank pulley). I really don't know if it's what you need. The stock one is in good shape and I could let it go for $25 + shipping if you want it.

If it is off of a 90, then i doubt it is the right size, cause they switched the size in 91, actually from what they told me the use both sizes in 91 and i kind of got screwed cause of it

Re: Need a timing gear & pully
Since the longblock came from a junkyard and I wasn't there when they pulled it from the car I can't be sure if it is a 90. Does anybody know if there is a way to know what year the engine was manufactured (not just the car but the actual engine)?

I know what your talking about, there were two diff size spouts on the cranks for the timing gear. The only problem is, I think the gears have different amounts of teeth. That could give you some serious problems. I'd look into that before just slapping one on there and cranking it over.

Re: Need a timing gear & pully
the different number of teeth will make a difference even if the internals are the same. the different number of teeth means that the gear is a different size, and so the cam gear to crank gear ratio would be different. So, if you get a different size crank gear, then you'll need to get the matching cam gear. If you don't then u'll eventually smack all your valves w/ your pistons. I'm in the middle of building a A6/Y8 motor, and finding problem after problem. Anybody have a good Y7 bottom end they wanna get rid of?
