rough idling and black smoke

I got a 1986 toyota pick up. When I start it in the morning it smokes and idles rough but when it warms up it quits. What can I do to my truck to get the idling better and the smoke to stop?

Well, your buring oil. To make sure your burning oil, pull a plug, if it looks oil that you are. Your oil could be coming from a number of place, head or past your rings. How much milage is on the engine? Ever been rebuilt? however, my guess, is from your rings.

black smoke

All though it could be many various problems.Though you did not mention if your 86 is a carb. I suspect it may be EFI. If it is carb however you might try replaceing the AAP diaphram on the carb. located on the driver side of carb close to the thermostate. If this pertains to your engine or maybe other readers, you can check the diaphams integraty by applying vacuum to the AAP tube. Vacuum should hold. If not the diaphram is faulty. A spring should be behind the diaphram....good luck. This problem caused me fits however upon changing this diaphram in my 85 toyota 22R carb. engine I was back up to 20 mpg's which was a welcoming improvement from the 14.5 mpg's with the faulty diaphram.
