Say, what do you guys recommend for lets say under 300 bux for a decent head unit. I dont need mp3's. I was thinking maybe pioneer for alpine. No crappy sonys. Any ideas, Thanks

Re: Best CD deck head unit

I would just with Alpine, Pioneers are cheaper, but I think Alpines are the best, so.. I guess my point is, if your looking for something good and relatively cheap, id go with Pioneer

I have the Alpine 9831, bought it off a friend for 2 bills. It's a great headunit. lots of sub and component options, and even though you said you didn't want it, it does play mp3's. Sr20 isn't a lil more than $300 even on ebay? I can't recall?

Well there you go! That's my recommendation. I had a Pioneer before, and although it was quite cheaper and a bit easier to use, the Alpine has loads more features and once you learn how to use them it's well worth it.

Yep, i have alpine too, once you get subs, and learn everything you need to know about your deck, you can finely tune everything. I love how alpine has the Frequance(<----spelling) levels you can adjust. I was just saying for something cheap and good go with Pinoneer. I dont know just look around more for a good price on an alpine, well worth it.

One more thing about Alpines is that they have 4volt pre-outs as opposed to Pioneer's 2volt preouts. When I had my Pioneer deck I could barely hear my front components. After I switched to the Alpine deck, I could hear the front speakers much much better, and it even made the subs a bit louder as well.

Re: Best CD deck head unit

Hands down the best sound for your money is Eclipse.

If you like Dolphins (Pioneer) and useless features (Alpine) than buy one of those.
If you care about sound and sound alone, than do yourself a favor and purchase Eclipse. They sound better than anything else out there! Get it from and installed by an Eclipse Dealer and get a great product WITH A REAL WARRANTY (not ebay warranty). Eclipse will even replace it (dealer installed only) for ONE year if it is stolen from your vehicle. Top that Alpine and Pioneer!!!

Also, the voltage even on their $200 deck has a TRUE 2.7v LOW impedance output. The higher models have 5V and 8v outputs!!!

The other guys tell you that their 4V is 4 volts but in the real world it is only centered at 1khz with a 4V peak and falls off drastically as you go up and down the frequency scale. ALL Eclipse models have a very linear curve and TRUE high voltage outputs. This equals unparralled sound quality.

Just some food for your mind.

Re: Best CD deck head unit

lets see here....

useless features (Alpine)
please explain what features on the Alpines are useless, because I can't think of any

They sound better than anything else out there!
opinions are like assholes

wrong, and wrong again
I've seen tests with an oscilloscope on the Alpines' "4V" preouts, solid 4.2-4.3V from 20-20khz before clipping. I've also seen tests on the Eclipse "8V" preouts that showed they were barely over 5V. Do a little research, you sound like one of those moronic car audio salesmen in the local shops running their mouth off about things that are so blatantly wrong that it's not even funny.
