hold left foot on brake pedal, rev up with right foot, release left foot, steer.

DO NOT NEUTRAL DROP!
(rev up in neutral and drop it into gear)

Re: How to race an Automatic

Yes but you can ruin your torque converter that way. I wouldn't recommend doing it a lot. I have triptonic so I push the throttle about 1/4 way off the line, half way til about 20 and then slowly push it harder and harder as my speed increases and shift. If I try doing it any other way, I'd just keep spinning.

All this of course happens in a matter of seconds and depends on your car. When I floor my friends MP5 I don't get any wheelspin. 8 seconds later I'd be at 60

neutral drop is bad times....my buddy had to replace his tranny in his mustang LX for doing too many neutral drops....definetely use the gritmaster technique

It is the best in terms of racing...but you'll ruin your torque converter.

Depends on the car, And if you do it alot yes, but to a lesser extent it will shorten the life, but not out right ruin it.

I doubt you'll end up doing more than 300 races, and I'd imagine it'd take that many to ruin it.

All just guesses tho.

Plus. You gotta have some starting torque for a torque converter in the first place. and celicas don't have any :P

How cool, I just saw an episode on Judge Judy of a dude who wrecked a friend's transmission by doing a neutral drop. So don't do that. Ah what am I saying, I watch Judge Judy, how cool can it be. When the light turns green, hit the gas. It shouldn't have the powa to atomize the tires just yet.

Re: How to race an Automatic

yea thats the safest way, or just brake it and find out the rpm right below where it spins the tires and hold it there then let off the brake and punch it

the celica does not have engouh power to be able to heat the converter up to the point of failure. Unless he was powerbraking for like 2 min. Just throw a tranny cooler on it and youll be fine.

Some people get stall converters too.......but its a waste unless you have some good torque

corection, celicas cant actually torque brake. most are FWD and i beleive there is an AWD version avalable. there are no RWD celicas coming out of the factory. You can hold the brake down and push the gas to the floor for hours and not damage the converter on a celica because you will either drag on your brakes or just sit there. all converters have a stall point. its why when crusing in an automatic and the engine is sitting around idle speeds just barely moving enough tranny fluid through the turbine to keep the car atthe speed, then you mash the gas and the revs go up but you dont accelerate that much untill right about a cartian RPM. the converter in the dads trailblazer is a stock 2100RPM converter. if im crusin at 1500RPM its almost like turbo lag when i mash it. a celicas engine has so little low end torque that once it got near the stall speed there wouldnt be enough torque created even fromthe converters torque multiplying capablilities to brake the tires loose. a converter spinning at 2000RPM doesnt heat up all too quickly...

are you sure it has a 2100rpm stall stock, it's not aftermarket? I don't know why they'd make a stock Blazer with that high of a stall.
