1995 Z34 Problems and Answers

This is a short description of my 1995 Monte Carlo, all the problems and what I did to fix them. First major thing was the tranny. I bought a new tranny installed it and it ran great. While I put the tranny in I redid everything in the car that I could think of. Brakes all the way around. master cylinder, exhaust, shocks, hubs, alternator, starter, plugs, wires, timing belt, seal and gaskets eveywhere accessible at the time. I then drove it good for about 2,000 miles. It then started to chug and glug and everything else. I would drive it around, depending on distance and heat I assumed, it would stall out and die and I was unable to start it until about an hour later or maybe more. Sometimes a day. Turns out it was the fuel pump. But before you jump onto the fuel pump consider what it is doing, I did replace the fuel filter first, then I thought the fuel pressure regulator, but have the pump tested before you jump in and install a new one. Mine put out about 20psi which was obviously low. So I had it replaced. Once I had that done I found I could do a burnout with it which I was unable to do since I bought the car...big difference. Then I wanted more power, so I straight piped it......and if yours ever hesitated during shifting like mine did, this solved it. I guess the lack of back pressure or something, when it shifts its so fast and smooth. (when I mean straight pipe I mean straight, no cat or mufflers). Then I had to fix my oil leak. Turns out it WAS NOT the oil pump driveshaft O-ring it was underneath the plenum, fuel injection rail, and lower intake, its a plate about 2 inches wide and 10 inches long on top of the block. It took me about 6 hours to fix but well worth it, it was so bad at that point I lost about half a quart an oil every stop. So hopefully if you have any problems some of this will help and if you have more post them and I will see if I left something out that happened to mine. (also ABS light always flashing on and off and then staying on ABS relay under the hood, mine did this as well) Mechanic said they are very intermittent.

yea ive had many of those same problems with 95 monte carlo....i had to replace the ABS and the master cylinder. and ive also noticed that sometimes it will not start, and then a couple hours later or a couple of days later it cranks right up. im also having problems with the tranny bein hesitant between shifts. sometimes i can have my foot on the pedal and push it more and nothing happens and then the RPMS jump. its crazy. this car has many intermitted problems but im jus worried about tranny....i took it to a shop and the mecanic said there was nothing wrong with it...thats bullshit though i know its slippin. but it has 192,000 miles on it so i dont know if its worth fixing or not...anyone got any tips????

I think I might have a tranny problem with my 1999 Monte, too. It feels like 3rd gear kicks in too quick and that sometimes the trans drags. Not sure what it is, thought. But I did find this:

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Re...id=587&src=vip

TSB # 00-07-30-002B

An occasional problem with this vehicle is failure of the Transmission Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS).
Failure of the Transmission PCS is identified in TSB # 00-07-30-002B. The cost to repair the Transmission
PCS is estimated at $45.61 for parts and $273.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat
rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.
