Question F250- 7.3 w/ powerstroke

I NEED HELP!

I have bounced from one site to another and I'm still getting nowhere except for rave reviews--I don't want to get screwed AGAIN!

About 3 years ago I bought a 96 windstar and really got it. I looked at all the reviews and only got thumbs up with the exception of O2 sensors so I went for it. Then I found out 3 months later that it was a death trap waiting to happen. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN!

Can anyone help? I need info pertaining to the 2000 and 2001 F250 with the 7.3 powerstroke 4x4...good...bad...indifferent

I know of nothing wrong with those trucks, especially since the 7.3L is such a great engine. The problem is the darn things are so noisy. The quiet diesels didn't come out until '03... stay away from the '03s with production dates prior to June '03 just to be safe.

My recommendation is that you purchase an extended warranty for the truck if you can, it should give you real piece of mind.

Again, i know of nothing bad about the trucks, especially in that year range at the end of their production. The choice is yours, but i've been a Ford Truck guy all my life so...

Re: F250- 7.3 w/ powerstroke

actually the 6.0 had problems up through november of '03, the the 7.3 is not that noisy. I own a 00, i have 150K miles, and so far just glo-plugs, batteries, and an alternator. They aare great trucks.

I have followed these trucks since they first put the powerstroke in the things. I'm not a mech. by any means but have kept up with all the reviews on them. I always wanted one when they first came out but at the young age I was then I couldn't afford one, so I had to wait. I have driven many of them but never owned one till about a week ago. I bought a 2000 4x4 supercabe model and I love it. My wife drives it to work and we use it to pull our ATVs, and soon our toy hauler. Anyway, you'll get mixed feelings about the engine but its like anything else you get lemons in everything, but majority of them are great. One thing that you may already know about is be sure to check for blow-by. Do this by removing the oil cap while the engine is running. If it poofs smoke pretty good then leave 'er alone. This is a sign of excessive engine wear, and isn't good. Like I said you may already know that but just tryin to help. Hey one other thing. They cost a good bit to service if your not aware of it. They hold 14 quarts of oil, filter cost like twice that of an average car and the fuel filter costs about $25, but for me personally its worth it.
Hey about the sound they really arnt that bad. Yea the older ones are a bit louder but the later model ones with the 7.3 aren't so bad. I have driven every year model and I belive that they started getting quiter at about 99-00. I know that the 02 models are quiter than my 00 model and the 99's are louder than mine even with my aftermarket exhaust.
But what the heck it could be a cummins....Yea I know they are great engines but I had to say that.LOL

I believe Ford manufactures the best all-around trucks, especially diesel trucks, the 7.3 powerstroke is a very good engine, extremely reliable and very powerful. When they hit 100k miles they still haven't even started to break in yet, that is to say if it is treated right.. like the oils and filters changed regularly. As far as trucks.. Ford has the best, they will outlast and surpass all others if treated right. I would give the 7.3 powerstorke a 10 out of 10.

Btw landyacht not to criticize but why are you worried about a very powerful engine being "noisy", it is a 7.3 diesel engine... if you got it, then let it be known...
