Re: 2001 3.4 V6 racing mods???

HOLY CHRIST!!! $1200 for a computer upgrade? You can get the DHP computer for less than $300. And yes it does remove the speed governer. But just remember you hit your breaks going over 108 MPH they are very likely to melt and not do anything for you. Removing the speed limiter is one of the dumbest things you can do to a stock car. They aren't built to go that fast. The tires aren't rated at those high speeds and the brakes are pretty much going to be worthless. And since I don;t know which motor you have I'm going to say turbochargedpower.com for the 3400 V6. It's for a Grand Am but they are practically the same car. And for the 4 bangers check the j-body forums. Just about everything that will go onto a j-body will fit the 4 cylinder aleros.

Re: 2001 3.4 V6 racing mods???

The brakes will work past 108... They will also fade really fast! Your looking at a minimum of better pads rotors braded steel lines and fluid! A better tire than stock is a must! If you really want to go that much faster than I would recomend suspension upgrades as well. The alero and grandams seem to have alot of oversteer in them at faster speeds and alot of understeer at slow speeds! The first time you drift the tail out at 70-80 youll know excatly what i mean. The suspension on these cars are not well thought out at all!

the brakes work well up to 125 mph - im driving once a week @this speed from south germany to northern where my parents live. i do not know if they are the same like in the us. i will post a pic if anyone wants to.

but they are shaking alerolike... its a lil fearsome sometimes but you get used to it...

There is no chip upgrade by itself from those companies. However, companies such as ASE will re-program your stock ECU after you send it in to them. We had it done to our '02 Alero GL2 after the bumper to bumper warranty expired.

If you take the car in for service, it is quite possible for a tech running a GM Tech 1 or Tech II machine to delete or overwrite the contents, etc. However, running a simple OBD-II scan with a scanner/code reader will not delete or overwrite the memory of the EEPROM.

The way around this is to get a complete stock ECU/ECM from a similar Alero model and year as a backup. We got one for $200 at a salvage yard and keep it for a spare, just in case.

This mod makes a big difference considering the cost.
