2003 Chevy Tahoe Keys

My wife lost her keys about a year ago. I then bought a remote from ebay. I search on this forum and found ou how to program it. Now my question is, can I get my other original key and have a local hardware or lock smith make a copy or do I need to buy one from the dealer?

Can you send programming instructions? I have an 03 Tahoe with 3 remotes, yet only one works. The ID number on the back of each remote is different....does that make a difference? Thanks.

Re: 2003 Chevy Tahoe Keys

Hi,
Hope this helps....
1- Close all the vehicle doors.

2- Insert the key into the ignition cylinder (do not turn on).

3- Press and hold the door unlock switch on door panel.

4- While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle

the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.

5- Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock

to confirm the program mode.

6- Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK button simultaneously on one

transmitter. After a delay of approx. 15 seconds, the doors will

lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.

7- Repeat the previous step to program up to 4 transmitters.

8- Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit

the keyless entry transmitter program mode.

9- Operate the transmitter(s) functions to verify proper operation.

Thanks for the info. I tried the process several times but it stops at item 5 (doors do not lock/unlock to confirm programming). Am I doing something wrong. Your instructions were very clear and precise, so there must be some other thing I'm missing. The 2 remotes I am trying to program have different FCC ID numbers.....could that be the problem?

Yea, I think they have to be the same, because they have two different signals (codes) they transmit when you push the buttons...Try programming only one transmitter, if you havent already.

Re: 2003 Chevy Tahoe Keys

You're absolutely correct. There is a specific GM ID code for each type of vehicle. The other two fobs I was given were for S10 pickups. They were given to me by the dealership where we bought our Tahoe. Go figure.

The remote fobs must have the correct ID number on back, which I presume is OK since it is the original remote. Below is the sequence I used and it worked fine, but it did take about 10 times before it finally worked. In fact, I went to the dealership when I could not get it to reprogram initially, and they tjold me it required a computer and took about an hour with a charge of $70! (liars!) I declined their generous offer and went home a tried until it worked. I think I did disconnected and reconnected the battery to the car which restarted the entire computer system to the factory default. I don't know if this actually helped, but I was able to reprogram the remotes after doing so. I would recommend NOT disconnecting the battery and trying several times using the below sequence. Good luck, have a great Christmas! Bill

Yes, the RUN position is the key position as far as it will go without actually activating the starting motor. It's just before you hit the starter.
