Red neon licence frame, but with good intentions, your opinions?

I drive a ford aspire. All my lights are in good working order (aside from the little one to fill in part of the left tail light, but i'll fix that) and I've noticed that people never seem to see me at red lights (even though it's a red car!)

So, I was thinking of getting a red neon licence plate frame, and wiring it into the stop light circuit, sort of like a fourth brake light.

So, as you can see, I have only the best of intentions, but cops usually don't like this kind of thing. How likely do you think an officer would see my attempt at making myself more visible (for safety!) as an outlandish if-thats-not-ticket-worthy-i'll-find-something-that-is mod?

I'm in Ohio by the way

All input would be greatly appriciated.

First of all, find out if it's legal or not. If it's not then don't do it.

its not realky legal, but not terribly illegal either, but I think a better way would be to get some red reflective tape and put it on your bumper

Stop your local law enforcement officer and ask him his opinion. You could always say you've been rear ended before and wanted the extra safety of an additional brake light. As long as it is just a brake light and isn't dangerously bright or something, I don't think a reasonable cop would ticket you for it.

Don't risk the ticket. I've experimented running/not running any brake lights and saw no difference in when people started to slow down when I started to. I also drive a red car most of the time. The reason third brake lights gave the false impression during the testing phase that they helped is due to the fact people thought they were unmarked cars.

don't even bother with it. cops in OH will flip if you have any color lisence plate frame. it's not worth the trouble.

Re: Red neon licence frame, but with good intentions, your opinions?

i dont konw how it is in other states but you cant have anything covering the lisence plates at all in virginia, technically you cdant even have lisence plates holders but they let it slide as long as you can see the month and year stickers. and you defenetely cant have any other light in teh rear of your vehicle except red. In virginia you couldnt put the light on the plate, id shoot for the back window just to be safe
