Rear End Change Need Advise Please

I have a Dodge Ram D150, I took out the rear end because of Really bad vibrations and metallica grinding sounds. I took it to a shop and they told me I needed New engine Mounts, Trans Mount, DriveLine rebuild( U-Joints), and a new rear end, Long story short, I picked it up and fixed it myself cept the rear end.

The rear end is a 10 Bolt 3rd Member axle, I found one at the junk yard with what I think is a 410 12 bolt 3rd Member axle(Not for speed but mainly for towing if im correct?) So my question is can I replace the 10 bolt 3rd member axle with the 12 bolt 3rd member axle? and would it be compatitable.

Few have told me I could but my max speed would be around 80mph

I have a 318 5.2L with auto trans if that helps any. Thanks for your time.

If it will bolt up, should be ok. Watch the size of the U-joint on the yoke of the new axle, it may be different than the size of the one on the driveshaft.

Once you put in the new rear end, you'll also need to change your speedometer gear in the trans, if you want your speedometer to register right.

Thanks guys for your help.

I went to another salvage yard and found the correct rear end, the grinding noice in the rear stopped but the terrible vibrations and the sound of clicking still remains, plus the trans is slipping lol. I just spent around 300 bucks this week to find out the trans is wasted lol. Im so mad its funny.

So I started thinking, throw the POS out.ITS ONE OF THOSE LAMENS.
But then thought well, what the hell, Ill put it in a shop and continue my quest, to find and fix the problem.

Should I buy a new torque converter? Any suggestions guys?

Thanks again for the help.

I know the feeling Outrage.. No shop yet has been able to fix my D100 (see http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=288870), but once you go so far, what's the point in giving up? As for the torque converter.. go for it. And good luck, haha.

Wow BamaDodgen, I read your problem, sorry to hear man. I know how you feel with a nevering ending problem.
I had a Chevy Lumima or something like that, kept stalling, wasnt idleing right, and just completely died when upto and over 70MPH, I mean the car would just completely shut down, power steering GONE Brake pressure GONE. Took it to 3 diffirent shops, they all replaced the same senor, some vacum sensor. But the problem still remained, so I did an Onboard ECP test, gave me a code for the Knock Sensor. bought a new one and fixed that.

Well I just took my Truck into a good shop today, drove it there, and the vibrations were 3x stronger, at lower accl. this time. Hope it figures it out.

Good Luck BamaDodgenMX.
