spark plug gap

i just replaced my spark plugs. in my manual it gives two diff specs for gap.
RNYC5-.048 to .053
RN9YC-.033 to .038
the plugs they gave me isnt either of those but car seems to run fine. how do i know what to gap these?

I don't think you will ever get plugs that are gapped correctly from the manufacturer. Is it a GS or GST/GSX????

its a gs. will them not being gapped correctly hurt my engine? plus the ones i pulled out were an off white almost and i think that is bad but i can find a site with pictures of different plugs that do messed up things

Don't quote me on this but I believe the gap is supposed to be .039-.043... My book says a 1998 2.0 and 2.4 have that gap...

yeah, my gs was gapped at .050 but it started running really hot and the car was shuddering and everything, sucked ass, until i decided to gap them down to .040 and the problem disappeared.

if the plugs are gaped to much the engine runs hot? did it only shudder at low rpms and idle?

If they are gapped too much, the spark won't be able to jump the gap and it will sputter and misfire.

yea my car idles werid now after i changed my plugs....and it sputters like hell in 1st and 2nd gear auto zone told me to gap them at .044....i have a gs also its compleatly stock could that be why my cars runnin funny now? it only sputters when i floor it tho when im just drivein regularly it runs fine....
