shifter question
why is it when my car is in gear i canmove the shifter to the right about a full inch...i thought once the shifter in gear it wont go left or right...cause sometimes i think its in neutral then i go to start it and ya you know what happens...lol...anybody know what might cause the shifter to move once its in a set gear?

worn bearings. and just a warn tranny, it shouldnt move quite that much though.

no my friend had a mx6 that did this, you could shift it in gear and then move it in circles a pull it all over the place. There is a bracket that holds the linkage in place. My best bet is it is that. My civic had the same problem and the bracket in the back of the shifter was half broke!!!

i have energy suspension shift linkage that i put on so it couldnt be that bracket gotta be something else besides that...

there's a bolt where the shifter is, tighten it up. I wish i could explain better lol. someone try to explain what i'm talking about

Yeah just because you have a stabalizer kit doesnt mean a bolt couldnt of came loose.
oh yes masta i do know what bolt ur talking about. Its by th ball of the shifter wher the torque rod ends past the ball of the shifter. Give me 5 min and ill upload the service manual pic. |

its the 13+ year old bolt in the bottom of the shifer, mine did that too, i put a new bolt in and its awesome!
change the bolt first

it could be anumber of things. check your entire linkage setup. alot of the times its either the bushings on the stabilizer bar (front and rear), teh bolt in the bottom of the shifter, or the pin in the front of the linkage having too much play.
