First of all find out if it's a valve or lifter or a rod bearing. After you determine that, then you'll what your next steps are.

Re: valve tapping

Well I cant remember you at all ttfox88... Let alone your car... So let me take a stab at the dark.

Now, very early Zed's 1989 January-February 1990, have possible Cylinder-Head and valve train problems. TT's with engine-numbers below 619550 or NA's with numbers below 777599 may be subject to this problem.

Now I can vouch for this personally... My first Zed was only the 102nd Zed32 ever made... And it had SEVERE valve train issues.

if you fall in this gap... Your probably looking at rebuilt heads. Which isnt cheap, or easy.

I wouldnt recomend attempting it yourself, its not easy.

Just getting the plenums off are hard enough.

Anyways, you may just want to consider a new engine... Your looking at about $1,500 in my experience. But its the easiest most efficient way to go, in my opinion.

Re: valve tapping

Is it really that hard to get those plenums off? I was thinking of getting a Polished-Ported upper plenum pretty soon....

Re: valve tapping

O shit dude, haha... Let me walk you through this.

-Remove the throttle-cord cover (4 hex bolts, easy)
-Disconnect the throttle-cords, one for primary drive tension, one of cruise control.
-Remove fuel dampener (this is hard without breaking the fuel line)
-Plug the primary fuel line (with a center punch of some kind)
-Remove the EFI harness connectors, labeling each individual connector
-Remove coil packs
-Break loose the 8 main bolts... 15mm ratchet and a good twist
-Remove the EGR arms on each side of the upper plenums arms. (About 1.5-2 inches behind the TBs, two 8mm bolts each)
-Remove the intake piping off each side.
-There is a small screw on the IACC on the drive side rear of the plenum.

It should come up mostly after that... Not without breaking all of your dry rotted hosing on your plenum (since your Zeds a '90, it is inevitable)

Now you have exposed the fuel rail, lower plenum, and cam covers. Work is easy from there... Unless your doing head work, then you have to get the lower plenum off... Impossible.

But since your just swapping upper-plenums... It should only be a 4-5 day experience. Make sure you've memorized the vaccum and fuel diagrams before you start, it will make re-assembly with your new hosing a sinch.

Good luck George

Re: valve tapping

Yea no shit... Thats the easy part too fella's

Fun stuff comes with re-assembly.

I had to do all that crap with my first Zed... Never worked on one before, had no idea what I was doing... But I did it.

Had to rebuild the heads, replace the EFI harness, replace the vaccum hosing, fuel hosing, water hosing, spark plugs, spark coils, injectors, fuel rail, MAF, accesories belts, timing belt, main pulley... God it was painful putting all that back together.

Check out this pic of my first Zeds engine half way through...

Hmm... Nice looking engine... Sort of.

Mmm...Enchilada's from Cali...the real-ish deal...I miss the real mexicans...well...their food at least. My dad owned a dry cleaners there in So-Cal and had a bunch of mexicans working for him. These were the the no english speaking, different social security card # every couple weeks kinda real thing......and they would bring us home made tamales that were KILLER. I miss that.

Anyway...I'll do it...$500, get the car here and home and supply some tools...and since you brought it up, I WANT SOME ENCHILADA'S!! And we have to race before I take it all apart...
