1991 Caravan Transmission problem
My transmission is having shifting problems. If I accelerate the trannie shifts fine in the lower mph of 0 - 40, but around 40 - 60 mph the engine rpm's are high and the trannie won't shift. This also occurs if I am trying to pass a car or use an entrance ramp. It will gear down just fine, but acts like it won't transfer power. as a matter of fact, if I keep the gas down it will continue to not transfer power until I let off the gas a little. When I do that, it will shift. I'm not sure if this is the transmision slipping, a vacuum module (although I can't find one or any reference to one in the repair manual), or a linkage problem. I have checked the fluid levels and all are ok, and the fluid is not burnt and does not smell burnt.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pat Rogers |

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this and it helped some, but it is back to it's old tricks again. I am thinking the trannie is in need of an overhaul. I was hoping that maybe a speed sensor or something might be causing this, but it really feels like the trannie is slipping. I tried tightening the bands but that too did not help any. Any other suggestions?? Thanks |
