97 2-wheel drive 350 vortec questions

Newbie here, I just bought a 97 2wd ext. cab silverado with a Vortec 350. I'm in the process of starting a custom painting buisness and I puchased this pickup as a shop truck/rolling buisness card. My original plans were to just make cosmetic changes, lowering, paint, stuff like that. But now I've got the itch to uncork the power that I know is hiding in that Vortec.
I've been out of the automotive loop for a few years and this is the first modern vehicle I've owned that I intend to get some performance out of. First off I was wondering if there is any free horsepower tricks in the Vortec that can be done. The previous owner installed a K&N air filter, I'm not sure that it amounted to much. He also installed aftermarket dual exhaust, just by looking at it it looks like 2 1/4". Also he had the trans rebuilt and had the shift points changed.
My intensions are to get a Hypertech Programer and change out the MAS and other fuel upgrades. I want to use it for the occational bracket racing that I normally do with my 70' Chevy 1/2 ton LB 2wd that now has a wounded motor.
I would appreciate any advice , thanks.
Brian
