filtration system for interior?

i was wondering if anyone has custom made a filter to install on the outside so that when you're driving through smoke or dust it won't come into the car when the air inlet isn't shut? how many openings are there to cover? i know new cars come with hepa filters... is there a diagram anywhere online?

Re: filtration system for interior?

hmmm..that'd be pretty interesting!

a hepa filter? That's a little too big and hard to put on the car. But if you could get a filtering type of cloth material to put behind the vents for the air to go through it, that'd be pimpalicious

Re: filtration system for interior?

first when there were fires last year there was a lot of ash city wide because of winds. it was in the san gabriel valley in california. so i closed the vents and kept external air out. after the fires i opend both vent hatches (center console and driverside vent) and a lot of dust came in.. it seems to have been trapped somewhere outside the vent doors.

so i wanted to see if maybe i could know where the vents are so i could cover them with maybe a sock or something to keep dust out. doesn't have to be a hepa filter. i also want to keep the vent fins clean. its a good idea but i need to know how many vent holes to cover.

Re: filtration system for interior?

there is the main inlet you could filter, it is under the cowl, you can get to it by removing the plastic cowl cover i think

otherwise you could drop the A/C evaporator assembly an possably put in a filter through there.
