Speaker Swap
Has anyone changed out their speakers in a ZJ. I know this requires taking the interior door panels off, i was just wondering if anyone could give me any guidance with this task. In Crutchfield it says that speakers for a 98 ZJ are 6'1/2's, someone told me something else, is this correct. If one has the infinity sound system, their are only 4 speakers right, or is there 2 up in to dash too???????? Those infinity were good in their prime. Im going to yank that shi$y amp too, and put a real amp in. Any advice, i would appreciate a post.

Re: Speaker Swap
i just took off my door panel on my 94 b/c my kenwood speaker was making noises and it turns out the foam that surrounds the speaker split from the speaker but it looked like it wouldn't be too hard to remove the speaker... it only takes a few screw to take the door panel off and then all you have to do is unscrew the speaker and connect a new one

Re: Speaker Swap
Does the door panel have those clips (that are easy to break off) that connects the panel to the door. Crutchfield said i would probably have to pry at those clips. Which screws are you refering to???? Let me know i would appreciate it.

Re: Speaker Swap
uuh im not sure what u mean by clips but maybe ur talking about the clips u cant see under the panel after u take the screws out they keep the door still attached u just have to get a hand under the panel and pull and they will unsnap from the door and u do that around the entire panel and it will come off... in mine once you do that u have to take the cover off the handle you use to get out of the car and then there will be a bunch of wires connected to the panel for the windows and locks i believe you can disconnect it....... and for the screws... in my car they are located inside the area for the door handle; in a rectangluar hole for air to lead to your window; one that looks as if it screws into the side mirror but it doesn't; and on the door like where the arm rest is... and i don't remember but possible on the side of the door and maybe one on the bottom i don't really remember

Re: Speaker Swap
I have a 97 ZJ and I am running a complete Audiobahn system in it. I had to fabricate a mounting plate for my 6 1/2's in the doors. I just bought a 1/4" thick sheet of wood and cut that out to fit the factory mounting location and to give my speaker a little bit more room since my magnet was bigger. There were 3 mounting screws on my factory speakers. I didn't have the infinity setup, so theirs maybe different too. I bought longer screws to replace the factory mounting screws. Most aftermarket 6 1/2's have around 8 mounting holes. I just used four per speaker and I haven't had any problems with them.
