Possible answer for oil light and starting problems

I have a 1998 Dodge Stratus SE. I have had the problem of not starting, but power every where else It was a sensor. They are located somewhere under the air cleaner. You can get it replaced at the dealer while they are running diagnostic on the car. Also a possilbe answer for the oil light coming on and going off when you step on the gas it is the timing belt. The timing belt runs the oil pump and every thing else connected to the motor is what I have found out. I was told by the dealer when I had that problem that it was the oil pump. I took the car to a friend of my husbands and they checked the oil pump pressure it was ok. When he checked the timing belt it fell off in his hand. I will also need to replace some pulleys and other parts that have to do with the timing belt area of the car. The parts have cost me about 400.00 plus labor. This cost is well worth it I love my car and so does my 18 year old son he says a prayer every day that the car will be in the drive when he gets home.

I'm guessing you intended to put this thread in a different forum?

I'll contact a mod and ask them to move it.

Re: Possible answer for oil light and starting problems

you could have low oil. is it automatic? when you accelerate and brake the oil may be low enough to trigger the oil light. seen it plenty of times. check your engine oil level.

The car is an automatic. It has been in the shop several times with no cure. We have the last was timing belt, pulleys ect. That was until three miles down the road. I went back to the shop they replaced sencors that I hadn't replaced when the car would not start. Then it was oil sludge. They flushed the motor and changed the oil again. The oil had been changed four times and the car had only been drove about 200 miles. I ame going to save the money to get the parts at NAPA to change the oil pump, lifters, and sending unit that will be around 500.00. Friend said that where he works will do the work cheap when I get the parts. Or I can get new motor for 3000.00.

make sure that the oil sending unit wire is not oil saturated. We have seen many intrepids and some stratuses where oil have leaked into the wire of the oil sending unit, the complaint was oil light flicker at idle when hot
