Cam housing seals

I am replacing both cam housing-to-head gaskets on my 1998 Grand Am 2.4L. Is it OK to use RTV sealant in conjunction with the gasket when I reassemble them together? The old gasket looks like a metal type that compresses upon tightening. I've used RTV with gaskets for changing water pumps and thermostats, but I am not sure about this particular job.
