Remote starter for 2002 Malibu?????

I have a 2002 Malibu LS that I bought for my wife. I just purchased a Crimestopper Coolstart 900IV for it. My brother and I were planning on installing this ourselves. I have installed Viper Car Alarms before, so, I figured this can't be all that hard. But, I saw on a website that the GM vehicles from 97 and up require a OE security bypass module. Is this true? I just don't want to tear into this thing and find out that it doesn't work or that I messed something up. If it does require something like this, can someone direct me on where to get it? Thanks for your help, hope to hear from someone soon!!!

Your local autozone or canadian tire should have 'em. And yes, they're necessary (I thought about doing the same thing [self install] in my 02 malibu).

Okay, sounds good. I will go to Autozone this weekend and grab one. We don't have a Canadian Tire here in Nebraska, so, Autozone will have to do. Thanks for your help! Take care...

Remote starter

here is scoop - if the chip for the security passlock system is built into your key go to Auto zone etc. if not here is your delema. GM in there all and might wisdom decided to place sensor chip inside the Ignition cylinder assembly. this sensor will identify your key as you put it into the ignition and will allow the cars onboard computer to identify the key as the correct one allowing you to start the car. If it does not identify the key as you turn/rotate the ignition switch to the on position it shuts down the fuel pump and your theft mode indicating light will flash for about 10 min or more. The chip senses resistance within very close tolernces in relation to your Key cut profile. This profile is required to be programed into the systems computer. This chip must physically sense the presense of your key in the cylinder tumbler set. So if you want to install a remote start kit it must bypass this sensor before yo can start it. This is a big big big problem? Here is your solution- A company in Verginia has a remote start kit that has resolved this problem. The company name is DesignTech and you can view the information on their website and all the specs on it. I hope this helps.
