I have a 1994 Jeep GC and i need to replace the stereo. I was thinking of buying a radio off ebay but i am not sure if it would work in my car. I don't think replacing the speakers will be too hard but i don't know if i should even touch the amp. does anyone have any experience with any of this.
Thanks for any help |

Here's a great little piece on the Chrysler/Jeep stereo wiring:
http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/DCP-Wiring.pdf are you buying a factory head unit? if not, just wondering why you are shopping on ebay for a stereo?? most stereo wiring is pretty easy. of course, I've used the same system in 5 vehicles now... |

If you're just replacing the factory head unit and speakers then it shouldn't be hard at all. Getting the door panels off to get to the speakers is probably the hardest part. Getting the dash off to get the the head unit is pretty easy also. You could probably replace the head unit, speakers, and add a CD changer in like two hours.
If you are looking for a stock head unit with tape deck, wired 6-disc changer (stock), and factory front and rear speakers let me know. I replaced all of those in my '98 GC. They worked fine but I just wanted aftermarket sound. They should fit flawlessly in JGCs between '93-98. I'll give you a good deal. |

I have completely redone all of the stereo components in my 94 jeep grand cherokee that came stock with the infinity deck. for the basic head unit install you will just need a fit kit and a wiring harness. This will run you about 30 bucks for both. For speakers, the 6 3/4" inch are the standard speaker size for the doors, however, i used 6 1/2 and just made an adaptor and it works no problem. If you plan on replacing the tweeters, you will have to modify or make a mount for the new tweeter. Wiring is a snap if you plan to used the head unit as your power source. If you plan on using an amp for your speakers, you will need a 4 channel amp and run new speaker wire from the amp to your speakers. You will need an amp kit if you do that. If you are unsure of what deck fits your car, go to www.crutchfield.com. They usually include a fit kit and wiring harness for free with every deck that you buy from them. They also include a detailed install manual for your specific jeep. Some other things you will need: crimpable wire ends, pliers, size 10 socket with extension or hand driver, pliers, zip ties, electrical tape, philips head scew driver. Also. . . if you buy off of ebay, you loose all rights to a warrenty. Only buy from an authorised dealer online or off if you want to be able to return your deck if you need to or have any problem. I have bought a deck off of ebay, was shipped a broken one, shipped it back at my expense, got a new one that finally worked. All said, after buying a fit kit and wiring harness,i saved about 20 bucks compared to buying through crutchfield which is authorized and includes the fit kit and wiring harness.
