someone please tell me how the heck i am soposed to ge the sparkplugs out of a 1990 formula 5.0, before i drive it into a wall. i cant even get the boot off of cylinders 5,6,7,and 8. let alone a socket wrench to loosen them.

The boots alot of times create almost a suction like effect and the only way's to get them off is either a special tool sold at pretty much any auto parts store or I find if you wiggle the boot from side to side while pulling them out they will just pop out eventually. Also once you get the boots off some plugs you will need to place the spark plug socket on with your hand and either use a seperate socket on the end of the spark plug socket or a extension or a open end wrench on the end of the socket if all else fails. Take your time and you will get it and if you think thats tough look in a LT1 F-body engine bay somtime.

i know, the LT1 is a nightmare. what kind of sick person sticks an engine in that small of a space. (now u see why i like the old muscle cars with that wide open space under the hood. lol)

does it help to have the car on a jack so i can get to the plug from under the car?

I know on my car you have to change the number 7 plug from under and the number 8 is sometimes easier from under but on those 305's you should be able to get to it from up top since your engine isn't pushed up into the cowl but if you just can't seem to reach it then by all means jack up that side and go at it. Also a sidewinder wrench never hurt.

Also you want to talk about great cars to work on. The C4 Vettes I've had where a dream to work on because the clam shell hood let you have access to everything.

i cant stand the C4! that is my least favorite body. i like the C3, C5 and im begining to like the C6 although the engine is crap.

and as for the #8 sparkplug, the air conditioning is in the way, and under the car, his bastard suspension setup is taking up the whole space i need to get to.

The LS2 is far from crap and one hell of a power house. Also if you can get a socket onto the the number 8 with your hand then you can get it out. Also have you tried jointed extension on that plug, I also can't see the air conditioner createding a problem that far back. whats in the way that loop in the back?

yes the pipes for it, its going into the condencer, and his coolent hoses are set up all wierd, they go right over #2,4,6,and 8. and im not disconnecting that stupid coolant hose. last time i did that, i had coolent all over me and all over the engine block

Congrats on the Star and as for your problem if you can't get to it and you don't want to disconnect anything, I don't know what to tell ya.

im gonna try taking off the wheel, there is a direct path from there to the sparkplug. i have never seen a 3rd gen set up like this, i dont understand it. neways that should work, i just have to find a monster extention.

Yeah I never owned one of those 3rd Gens but I know of a couple of vehicles that you have to go through the wheel well. Might just be what has to be done. Good luck and keep us updated.

i will. and no i say that because, as u can see, mine is also a 3rd gen. (isnt it pretty? :P) even when mine was stock, it wasnt like this setup. and whats even wierder is that all the parts say "GM certified" so it cant be "aftermarket" mods.

mine? mine WAS a TBI before i put the 455 in it. now its got a holly 950 on it. (do u have any idea how hard it is to find a carb over 700? lol)
