Ka24e Upgrade?
I found a 89 240sx with the stock ka24e sohc engine. it has 172k miles on it. Would it be worth it to rebuild it, upgrade it, and turbo it... I don't want an sr20det right now. or should i just buy the ka24de?

Re: Ka24e Upgrade?
I woulden't go through the trouble of turboing a KA24E, by the time your done rebuilding, you could do an SR swap. If your going to do a rebuild use the KA24E pistons in a KA24DE. You end up with about an 11:1 compression ratio and should be able to make about 200 whp with supporting mods.

Re: Ka24e Upgrade?
if you plan on doing an sr swap, i wouldn't bother with rebuilding. I would just save up and wait till the engine dies and do it. You state that you don't want an sr right now...and it seem as though you will later, so just save up.

KA24det is a really strong engine, those can last if you take care of them. the block is cast and SR block is aluminum. The KAs stock crank can withstand 600hp because its forged and its shot peened wich makes it stronger than any other stock crank i know of.
The SR engine is cool, but i mean to much hastle to much time, and obviously a lot more money than just getting a DE engine and turboing it and you cna always get the parts here in teh states for good deals, and not worrying about the engine that they dont make here. The SR engine is wanted because its hard to get lol, i bet if this engine was a regular engine here in the states then it wouldnt be wanted as much. it would be just like another DE and making it into a DE-T |
