"Spy Shots: '06 Toyota Supercar
Lexus or Toyota? Does it matter with 500 hp?

Toyota has been eyeing Nissan's success with the revived 350Z - and apparently, from spy pictures nabbed this week, it's been a little jealous of supercars like the Porsche Carrera GT, too. Toyota 's been caught testing what some insiders are calling the "TXS," a limited-production exotic that might be powered by a V-10 engine worth 500 hp.

Pictures show the TXS with enough cladding to disguise much of its shape, but clearly, this is no Celica or MR2-sized sportscar. Insiders suggest the car will tip in at less than 3000 pounds, giving its 500-hp powerplant (with 370 lb-ft of torque) a serious chance at catching the likes of the Porsche and Benz supercars. Top speed could reach 190 mph, the same league as the 550-hp Ford GT. Whether the drivetrain offers any version of Toyota 's hybrid technology is unknown.

Whether the final vehicle is sold as a Lexus or as a Toyota , it's likely that a limited production run of about 10,000 units is in order. Expect a debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show and an on-sale date soon after - with a pricetag well over $100,000."

Re: Get ready...

Yeah, I saw this on another forum. It kinda looks like a supra, but that price tag is too much for a supra, but what the hell, it will be sweeet

Re: Get ready...

A lot of people believe this is the new Supra.

You can check out the massive 22 page (as of now) thread about it on Supraforums.

I think it will be the updated Toyota Soarer. I was reading somewhere that they have been doing mad production for this car in Japan, and it is in the same league as the Skyline (hp/weight/tq). Not positive, but those lights look nothing like a Supra.

Even if it is another Supra...its just not the same. I would still go with the 1998 edition over that.

But 500hp....that is quite nice.

Re: Get ready...

To me the tail lights kinda look like the Celica's. But man, if money ever came my way, I'd definitely take one. Even though I can't see most of it at this point, it seems well worth it. Late...

Re: Get ready...

Looks liek a cross between a celica and a 350Z to me, whatever it is if it turns out to be a production car it'll be mouth watteringly sweet!

If that is the case, then it would be the replacement for the Lexus SC. Which i'm very doubtful of.

Re: Get ready...

Looks like they dressed it up like a celica to keep people guessing...

I just wonder what it really looks like... I like the retractable looking wing though.

1. If you look within there it's pretty much going to be flat and also if you look at 1.5 on picture 2 there almost seems to be nothing supporting the glass if thats what it is then the whole backend would be flat and AGAIN refering to picture number 2 if you look closely where the roof would meet the glass you can tell it looks like the roof is just laying there.

2. Never before have I seen 2 vents on a hood like that and the car end up having an engine under there of course I could be wrong there but anywho.

3. Not too many car's have 3 exhaust pipes which just tend to be stickin out the centre and actually be rwd for the most part in my expirience it's dual exhaust or 1-2 pipes in the middle.

You're raising a good point there. There's only two ways i see them putting the exhaust in the middle like that.

1. They ran the piping directly under the differential, in which case there woud be some type of exhaust clearance problem.

2. They ran the piping around the differential and then back to the center. I have no idea why anybody would do that because you'd be adding another bend of restriction to your exhaust system. Talk about inefficiency.

This is all assuming its an FR.
