86 civic idleing problems

i have aan 86 civic which is ideling anywhere between 200rpm and 1500rpm does any one have any sugestions on what could be the problem???

What did the mechanic say/do? I'm having the same problem and don't take my car to the mechanic.. (maybe I should, this is busting my brain!)
