Re: what exhaust to get?

Want that classic V8 rumble? The only thing that comes to mind is the old saying "There is no replacement for displacement".

The setup you mention would improve your exhaust note, but getting that deep throaty tone may be trial & error, and the tone will change depending on what rpm you are turning, type of muffler, diameter of pipe, length of system, etc.

I also tried to get a V8 rumble from a 4.3L on an '83 S10, but having had V8's before, there just isn't a replacement. I used a single Cherry Bomb glas-pack located in the stock muffler position, no cat-convertor, then discharged the exhaust just in front of the rear wheel. The entire system behind the Y-pipe was 2.25".

At idle and lower rpm it did have a deeper throaty note, but when the rpm's were up in the 2000+ range, there was no mistaking the V6 for a V8.
