which head for turbo?

i am planning to stroke a b18b to a 2.0 with the crower stroker kit, with je 8.5:1 pistons, darton sleeves, aem stand alone ecu, greddy turbo kit at 15-18psi daily, 1000cc injectors, i am not sure what head to get. i was told to go vtec becasue a fully ported ls head won't flow as good as vtec would. which head should i use? i was thinking about using a b18c5 head but poeple said that it won't be reliable. whats the difference betwen the b18c5 c1 and the b16a's?

couple questions.

1. what size is the turbo that comes with the greddy kit ?

2. dont say i want this much psi, tell us how much hp you want

3. is this a street motor or full race

who ever said the type r head was unreliable is stupid, type r cams are very good, the intake mani and tb flow really good. the head has a semi port polish, so its a good head to use and is very reliable. a 8.5 cr is alittle low, you might want to up it to 9 cr. 1000cc injectors are way too big, you idle will be alittle off with injectors that big, but then i need more info to tell you what you size you should get

Re: which head for turbo?

the turbo is a Mitsubishi Spec TD05/06-18G Turbo, and i want 300-350whp. i also want it to be a daily driver. ive just been reading on the boards that ls vtec is unreliable. should i go with vtec or just port and polish the stock head?

Re: which head for turbo?

16V heads flow very well anyway, I would know I've been running an 8V head for the last 2 years. I say leave the head stock and spend money elsewhere. You should get 300 WHP at 18 PSI no problem on the stock head. And with only 8.5:1 CR you can probably run more like 20-22 on 93 octane. Spend the saved money on fuel management and 3'' exhaust.
Look at the dyno in my sig, 270 WHP at 22 PSI. 16V heads in general give 30% increase in top end HP. So thats 350 WHP at 22 PSI with a 16V.
What FMIC are you going to run?

if i were you, id bump that cr up to 9, bore the block out to 84mm. put a vtec head on it. run either type r cams or some sort of stage 2 cams. if you get the type r head then you can keep the intake mani, if not i would get a jg mani and a tb to match. that should get you to 300psi at around 10 psi. oh you can port polish your head if you want to get more hp out of it.

lsvtec are reliable, lots of people run them, just gotta build the motor right. also at around 10psi it is still streetable and you can even run lower on the street, it maybe higher then 10psi thats just a guess. but it should be too far off from that.

good thinking pwman but your numbers are very low for a honda motor.

Re: which head for turbo?

well you know that greddy turbo's arn't gonna get you 300hp......unlike other turbos greddy has a internal wastegate set at 7 psi...i recommend you get fmax or revhard turbo kits......if you want something thats carb legal get greddy, 1000cc injectors is too much for however horsepower you want.....lets just put it this way....if you want 350hp you should get 440 injectors.....make sure you upgraded your feul pump and feul rail.
p.s. have your turbo tuned by a ems (engine management system).

yes upgrade the fuel pump, you dont need a fuel rail, sotck fuel rails good for 600whp. for 350whp 440cc might be pushing it, i know 440cc can handle 300whp, idk about 350whp.

yup get an ems. aem, hondata, uberdata and have a good tuner tune it.

All the better right? LOL, yes I was thinking about turbo dodge 16V heads, my bad. I favor torque and thats why I went turbo dodge. I may only have 270 WHP but 350 ft/lbs is NICE! A honda engine very rarely puts out more torque that HP. My car runs high 12's on slicks, how many 270 WHP hondas can say that or better? Not many unless it's a stripped down civic that weighs less than 2000 lbs. My car tips the scales as a heavyweight at 3100 w/driver.
Honda heads flow even more plus they don't have as much displacement running through them which is even better. So thats more like 400-450 WHP at 22 PSI, and thats about insane for a street car. Ported head, turbo cams, 3'' exhaust and your looking at 500 WHP. LS1's for breakfast, SVT's for lunch, and ZO6's for supper.
