looking for certain VTEC engine

Hi everyone.

Well, for quite some time now, I've been looking for one of those 3 stage VTEC engines, but can't find any place that has them. I believe the model names are D15Z1, D15Z3, D15Z6, and D15Z8.

So, does anybody know any good, reliable sites that would have these?

Or do you know the model that has them stock? From what I read though, they were only manufactured in Japan.

Thanks! So you are sure these are the three stage VTECs? I'd hate to end up with just a regular SOHC (not that there's anything wrong with those...I just want what I pay for).

And is that $74900 I see???

Yeah I'm sure it's the right one. and yeah they did that typo on all their engine prices; it's $749.00

i thought the 3 stage vtec motor was the economy model.

nope the d15b vtec combines the fuel economy of the VX motor at lower RPMs and the performance of the d16 vtec engine. So you can get good gas milage driving around regularly and still perform when you're mashing the gas rto race or what have you. Just wondering...is there any reason I should pick the first site (which is more expensive), such as a reputation for better/more reliable products, etc.?

The two sites include different things (shown below), and I'm a complete noob at engine swaps, do you know if there are any sites that could enlighten me? Or would it be better just to ask my questions here?

(what the other doesn't include)

Total JDM: Vtec Solenoid, Half Shaft (Intermediate Shaft)

hmotors online: Injectors, Fuel Rail, Throttle body

Aerohead Accessories has the whole swap for $775 and includes a full swap minus the halfshafts. There site is down for some reason but if you want to check them out the # is 1-715-524-3257, its where i get my swaps from and i know the owner, hes pretty cool.

It depends on what you have now. If you're just replacing a motor (meaning you already have a d-series in there) then should be able to use your existing axles and halfshaft. Both places should come with all those things you listed as different. Both sites have a good reputation. Personally I'd go with www.hmotorsonline.com because it's cheaper; even with adding the tranny you'd pay $585+shipping. Although I'd call both places and see if you're getting the ECU with the swap, because if not you'll still need that (passwordjdm.com used to sell it, they still might but it's not on their site anymore).

And DBISIS - 14 of your last 36 posts have all been advertising for that place. Ya know it's cool that you got a good deal on a good motor an all and you're being helpful by letting people know about a good site... but you've already been told about what you're doing. Whoring to get people to go to your friends site isn't a good idea and can easily get you banned for blatant advertising. And the fact that no one but you has heard of the site, so no one knows if they can be trusted (not saying they can't but there are more rip off sites out there than legit). And the fact that their prices are easily beaten by known legit sites. There have been a few people coming on this site that have done the same thing you're doing, only they've admitted to getting a deal on motors by refering people (to totaljdm specifically). But they all stopped once they were informed that they are not allowed to do that. Just giving you a 3rd heads up.

All i did was answer his question, is that not the point of the forum? To get an answer and have other peoples input. I find it sad that you have nothing to do but go and count how many of my post mention or dont mention the shop. And i have already put up posts saying that if enough poeple will buy when I buy we all get a discount, but that is not my reson for posting I already get my motors at good prices. I am just sharing my expeirence with others so he can get known and have a good reputation.

Well you see, I want to get a car that looks really nice, and then put the vtec in there (since i've heard many good things about it). Ya I'm sure there are plenty of fast cars that look good, but Honda also has that reliability. That's why I chose not to just get this 96 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. But I do think it looks good, along with a few other cars. So what would I need to do an engine swap, and what else would I have to do to make the car run great? You see, this is why some site that explains all this would be great, unless you don't mind answering my noobish questions.

Oh yea, and also, is there some way to make a fwd into an AWD? And are AWD really that much better?

Some good things to do to get the car running great would be to do suspension stuff, basic bolt-ons (intake, header, exhaust), could cam it, grounding kit, good tires. Here are some links of performance stuff:

You could turn a FWD car into an AWD or even a RWD. It'd be a lot harder to do it with a D-series though, think the only non-FWD civic was an old wagon and a 4wd ZC. But say like with a B-series you could use the CRV stuff to do it, but it'd be a lot of fabrication. Honestly it will end up costing a lot more than it's worth. And the only thing an AWD car is better at is launching. After it's launched there is nothing better about it than a FWD car.

Alright, just in case it might help, I'll be a little more specific on the cars I want to do the engine swap with.

I like...
6th or 7th gen toyota celicas (94-05)
hyundai tiburons
eagle talon 2nd gen/eclipse (dunno the gen)

(I'm on a pretty tight budget, so I can't go crazy with my choices, but if you know another really nice looking car that'll be cheap, please let me know)

Sorry if it pisses anybody off that I don't want to stick with a honda body...but it's what's inside that really counts, right?

So yea, how much do you think it would cost to get somebody else to make a fwd changed to a awd?

Oh, and ever since I got the Service Pack 2 for windows, a bunch of pics don't work anymore on the net, so lots of the forums I couldn't see any of the pics. Or maybe it was just those certain pictures. Oh well...

Honestly if you're on a tight budget, then doing a fwd to awd swap is going to be damn pricy; especially paying someone to do it. Though I don't know how hard (or easy) it'd be to change a talon or eclipse over, but you're better off just buying a stock awd one. I'd say just get a GSX Eclipes or TSi AWD Talon, or you'll probably end up spending more on getting the AWD conversion than you could just buy a car already that way. Plus they're both turbo.
