Cobalt vs other 2005's

Is there any car coming out in 2005 that can compare to the style and great gas mileage of a cobalt?

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

looking same price range/monthly payment as cobalt
limited to american cars too. well heres some more info. needs to be a winter driver. work is about 10 miles away. its not real street driving but not really highway either. has to be something me and my gf can enjoy. looking for 4 doors but 2 is fine. Gas Mileage is the most important thing. For class not sure if cobalt falls under compact car but not really looking for anything bigger, but smaller is an option. After driving a Century and an Astro Van you appreciate that they still make little cars that are easy on gas. Trunk space isnt important. Looking for a long warranty too. If you got any other ideas iroc please post

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

well, first off, if you are looking at four doors, im pretty sure the SC cobalt SS is out of the running, which means youre looking at the lower powered 140 or 170hp versions of it. so keep that in mind. If you are limiting yourself to american cars, also try to decide what your definition of an american car is, if you are doing it for the american economy, remember that many "import" cars are assembled here in the USA, meaning that not buying them will hurt our economy and the jobs of americans. So dont let brand loyalty fool you too much. I mean even my precious camaros, the heartbeat of america... was built in canada, so buying a camaro was actually funding the candadian economy, so actually buying a civic would have been better for the US economy. tricky eh? But i would say if you are limiting yourself to American brand names, you should go with the cobalt. if you are looking for a four door version, i would say get a manual equipped four door with the 2.4L ecotec, and if the 170hp starts to get ya down, give it a year or two, and im sure there will be plenty of aftermarket supercharger and turbo setups to wake it up a bit more.

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

well there is the srt4 its 4dr and fast but they get horride gas mileage its been stated in car mags that its even worse then the stated rating from dodge

then there is the pontiac G6 there really nice cars but can be around 25k in gt trim not sure of the gas mileage on this but im sure its decent

theres always the cavalier and sunfires too lol 05 is there last year and you can pick one up for wicked cheap like under 10k brand new and they are very modable if thats your thing and they are both great with gas and are very peppy too in stock form

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

oh yeah dont get me wrong, i like the cav's too, specificly the one year they came with your body style and the ecotec with a 5 speed. I just couldnt stand the interior. i mean geeeeeze. id have to get an RK sport catalog and completely redo it with aftermarket parts. but mechanically and on the exterior, i like em alot. especially the ecotec and that sweet 5 speed.

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

hope your not talking about how my car looks now lol cuz its kitted but i do like the stock body style as long as the car is droped and has some 17 or 18" rims on

ecotech engine is alright in them cars it has less 10 hp less then the 2.4 and doesnt have a S/C kit straight from GM

the 2.0 S/C engine though is pretty sweet to bad there not in Cavs or sunfires

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

well it is true that they were a little underpowered compaired to what im used to, but then again, they are also much lighter cars, the look decent, and again, the sweet spot was that five speed tranny, it makes up for the lack in power by just being so damn fun to drive. And there is always aftermarket mods, so its not a big deal. I just hope the cobalts tranny is as well meshed and natural feeling as the one was in the cavaliers.

and yeah i figured your car had a kit, it looks good though, i just cant stand the last bodystyle, like on the 03-05 models. the front end on em is so damn ugly.

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

2005 Mazda 6 v-6 260 hp , top speed 155 mph stock , plenty after market upgrades , body kits , 6 speed tranny. Nifty car. It doesn't do as hot as 32 mpg but some say they can squeeze out 28 mpg but then again that's because it runs higher rpm due to a stick. Get the auto and you might pull 2 more mpg out of it.

Re: Cobalt vs other 2005's

um... manuals tend to get better gas mileage than autos due to 0 slippage in the drivetrain.

For common driving yes but not freeway driving , the manuals run higher rpms which , sucks more gas.
