Cruise control not working

I'm brand new to this forum. The cruise on my 96 Ram 2500 (bought used with 76000 miles) does not work. I don't think it is the broken vacuum line as covered in Tech. Service Bulletins. The light on the steering column that would indicate the cruise control is on has never worked. Maybe there is some electrical problem?? Where is the fuse for this system? It's not shown in my owners manual. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

Re: Cruise control not working

Well, the most common problem is the vacuume. Check all of those lines (the servo is under the battery tray, so check your electrical connection down there if you think it's that). What you'll see when you look down there is a small, round metal and plastic servo that is mounted to the battery tray with 3 10mm bolts. Comming out of the servo is a vacuume line (small black) and the throttle cable houseing (larger black). Check the vacuume line really good. Take it completely off the truck if you have to. If it's good, then do the hard part, and take the servo off and check it. Mine had 2 large hold eaten in it. What may have happened, is the battery acid could have burnt and melted into the servo's electrical components. Mine almost did, but I changed it before it did. Hope this helps. Oh, and about the fuses, they should be in the fuse box on the driver's side of the dash. I'll look for a fuse diagram for these trucks and see what I can find. Good luck.

Re: Cruise control not working

Yeah my servo had holes in it from acid too. I replaced it and my cruise works fine. I cut the top off of a boat battery holder bucket thing and stuck my battery in there. I haven't had any more acid problems.
