OBD Codes

I looked up how to jump the wires to read the trouble codes, but my connector has leads in A, M, O, & P | F | E | D | C | B | A |
| R | Q | P | O | N | M |

Is this OBD II? if so what do i need to scan the codes, i have an OBD II scanner but it's only for the 16 pin connector.

It is a 1995 with a 3.8l

I think it has been said on this forum that 1995 was a swing year and that there were OBD1 as well as OBD2. If the connector you are talking about is the CAR connector, then it is probably OBD2 because OBD1 (on my car) has only 3 wires connected to the car plug.
About OBD2 scanners, there are multiple configurations depending on car maker: ford, GM and chrysler as well as imports are different....

Granted, but what OBD II scanner will read from a 12 pin DLC? Is there some sort of adapter from the 16pin to the 12 pin GM style? What is everyone else useing?

You can read codes by jumping connector A and B and switching the ignition key ON, and reading the flashes of the Check Engine Light.

As far as what I have been reading, what I have been told, and also accordning to my experience, all 1995 Trans Sport has OBD I (Some other car went to ODB II already in 1995). But you are right, It has been said on this forum that there were both OBD I and II in 1995.

In any way, 12 pin connector meen OBD I! You need and interface, an old laptop and some software to read out the data and the error codes.

Up to 1992 it is also possible to read the error codes via the check engine light, but not for 1993 and later.

Well, I might be wrong about the year. Maybe it is possible upto 1993/1994 to read error codes with the check engine light. At least I know that it is not possible for my 1995 and later.

Yeah I would think the difference in socket connectors (AMOP vs ABM) reveals the change.

Hi,

1995 is a weird year. You need to have a scanner that reads OBD II codes and then you need an OBD I cable. I have a 1995 Trans Sport with the 3.8. My scanner is the AUTO X-RAY OBDII scanner but I had to go and buy the OBD I GM cable. When I read my codes, they are OBD-II codes. Don't even try to use a paper clip and jump the connections because it won't work.

Yes, you are right. I have AMOP connected in the socket of my -95 3.8, and then it is pretty clear that there is no idea to try to jump the A and B with a paper clip....

I did made an interface instead and downloaded the software from the link above. The interface did cost me about 10$, I did have an 10 years old laptop to use and the software is freeware. You don´t have to spend 100dreds of $ on expensive scantools.
